This area of the town is perhaps one of the most cultured, and as such is littered with art galleries, photography studios, bookshops, quality sweet, chocolate and fudge shops, the famous Whitby Jet and jewellery outlets, plus many great and varied places to eat or drink.

No visit to Whitby is complete without seeing the 13th-century ruins of Whitby Abbey, one of the most dramatic and atmospheric sites on the Yorkshire Coast, or set sail to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum and visit the site where the legendary Captain James Cook lodged. Alternatively enjoy a trip to the theatre and head to Whitby Pavilion, with its stunning sea views and spectacular shows it’s definitely worth a visit. Beach 1 mile.
