Charming Vashon Island Cottage - Just 3 minutes from the ferry.
Enjoy peace and quiet at the Cottage at Useful Bear Farm. Vashon Island has lots to offer year-round: beaches, hiking, biking and bird-watching. Conveniently located near the north-end ferry and close to town where there are wonderful shops and restaurants. The cottage has full kitchen, bathroom and living/dining room on the first floor. Upstairs is a large sleeping loft with queen bed separated by a divider and a trundle bed and sleeper sofa. A portion of the proceeds from the cottage go to local housing programs.
We really liked having the farm fresh eggs that was a nice touch. Watching the deer in the meadow was really fun , but one of the chairs is cracked in multiple places. Lots of games to play but was disappointed there was no TV. Not a deal breaker. Huge sports fans, and thankfully there was a radio. Think you wanna treat for various bugs. Spiders especially but did find a larger bug on the flat sheet. Was a bit musty but great airflow upstairs. Over all for a cottage/barn it was a nice stay.
Great cottage for our family trip and first time on Vashon Island. Peaceful setting with comfy beds and easy access to the north ferry and downtown Vashon. Debra was great with all the info and amenities we needed.
It has a charming, cozy atmosphere and a sense of connection to the surrounding landscape. My favorite part is the motion sensor lights on the staircase.
Nice and peaceful escape from the city. We appreciated that there were fresh eggs (!) for us and not a long list of cleaning to do at checkout (no list at all!) we enjoyed this cute quiet spot immensely.
We had a very nice stay here. Loved the fresh eggs and flowers upon arrival. The sitting room upstairs with sky lights was great in the afternoon. Slept well under the layers of quilts provided. Highly recommend this cottage.
Located not far from the Seattle Ferry. Owner is very kind and welcoming. Has all the comforts of home including French press, baking pans and other stove top pans, oven with broiler, Keurig and hot water kettle, Bose system, plenty of blankets, and what I loved was a full bath tub (and shower). Stay here for quiet place near the sea!
The cottage was small and suitable for the two of us. The stairs were very steep making it somewhat scary to navigate in the middle of the night. We went out to dinner and when we returned, it was very cold. We tried to get the heat to work, but werenât successful. Other than that, it was clean and comfortable.
I stayed here this past weekend and despite the rainy weather, had an incredible time! The cabin is homey and so sweet. Debra was so helpful and kind and reached out to let me know that she was available if my friend and I needed anything. She also left us some fresh chicken eggs to use, which was a lovely touch. I would definitely recommend a friend to visit!
Debra greeted us the first night which was nice. She responded to my notice of a leaky sprayer which they already knew about.
I was very happy to find extra charger cords and plug they had provided since I forgot mine.
This was a cozy, comfortable cottage and well furnished. A very quiet & private location close to town, shopping & restaurants. The owners were very friendly and we would stay here again and recommend it to others.
We enjoyed our stay at this comfortable, and hospitable cottage on Vashon Island. Super clean, artsy, quality linens, well stocked bathroom, beautiful setting. We will be back!
This was our first visit to Vashon, on the recommendation of friends. WONDERFUL property and hosts/owners.
The location is super close to the ferry, close to the main island 'downtown' area, and overall lovely.
If you love the 'rural' feel with fresh fruit from orchard trees, and fresh eggs from chickens (owners shared some eggs! -yum!) - then you will LOVE this location.
Inside was clean, decorated in tasteful/simple/elegant style. For short stays you will have everything you need.
*Note - if you have issues with stairs, the steps are few, but rather steep. Good railings, but... just FYI...
Overall - a 9.8 out of ten! (0.2 for the stairs) - outside of that, GO FOR IT - you won't be disappointed!
Welcoming hosts, beautiful property, best bedding.
Fresh eggs, a bouquet, and a lovely message left in the cottage by the friendly host who introduced herself after we parked. We were encouraged to enjoy the surroundings and pick some apples.
We loved the down comforter/pillows and cotton sheets on the bed, and soooooo many amazing quilts to cuddle up with. The check in and check out times are so generous. We would definitely stay here again. We also heard an owl when we got back from dinner, which was really cool.
From arrival to departure, my wife and I had a great stay. The house was clean and wonderfully styled. My wife enjoyed the stained glass upon entering the front door. The stairs were a bit steep so if you have kids or older individuals staying there, just be cautious. The house had everything we needed from silverware, linen, boardgames, & books. Deborah was very welcoming. She told us we were free to explore the farm and even left us some homegrown eggs on the counter. If we ever come back and this place is available, we will definitely be staying here.
We'd stay here again. Host was friendly and accessible. House was small (as expected), but really nice and very clean. Bright and welcoming. The only downside is that the house number sign was a little hard to see from the road, but that was easy to get used to.
