Gorgeous Umbrian farmhouse

If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. Casale Amerina is a much-loved, traditional Umbrian farmhouse that has been beautifully restored with a stylish interior. It's a place to rest and recuperate, restore and rebalance, perhaps read or write, and, for the energetic, roam and revitalise.

There are two bedrooms with contemporary king size beds, a comfy sitting room with a balcony, and a gorgeous kitchen-dining room with Tuscan oak beams and a fireplace. Enjoy the large, newly-sown grass lawn, edged with lavender, where you can soak up the sun or relax in the shade of our olive, walnut and fig trees.

Set on a hillside, the house has glorious views of the surrounding fields, forests and vineyards, with the Apennine hills in the far distance. There are wonderful walks nearby, including along the ancient Via Amerina. We love the local walks so much we've described them in our guide to the house and created maps of the routes for download. As you'd expect, the area is brimming with hilltop villages and exquisite local restaurants. Our guide lists all of the best restaurants and trattorias in the area.

Casale Amerina will take you away from tourists and plunge you into the deep calm of the Umbrian countryside. However, if you want to see the sights, they aren't far away. The beautiful, ancient town of Todi is a 15 minute drive. Orvieto and Perugia are both 45 minutes by car with their renowned churches and palazzos, as well as fabulous shops and restaurants. If you fancy a swim, there's an outdoor public pool just 10 minutes' drive, close to Todi or, for the more adventurous, the clean, refreshing water of Lake Bolsena is an hour away.

Casale Amerina is well equipped for work or rest. The house has fast wifi, a high spec Sonos speaker, and a 43 inch ultra HD TV with Canton soundbar, on which you can watch a range of channels including CNN International, BBC World, Sky News International and France 24. We also have wide selection of books – novels, poetry, history and international affairs – as well as guides to the local area.
