We had stayed in this beautiful home one time many years ago. Now that we are empty nesters, I was thrilled when I found it again. It is the perfect house for a couple to get away and relax. This house is incredibly unique architecturally and built like no house I have seen. It is small but does not feel small, The kitchen is big, bright and open, plus wonderful to cook in. Diane had great taste so the house is full of high quality furniture, cookware, artwork, towels, linens, etc. It has no feeling of being a rental that opts for cheaper things I am amazed at how wonderfully it has aged over 20 years. It has gotten better, not a sign of being tread upon by use of renters. The master has great views of the ocean and a fantastic bed that you do not want to get out of at times. There is an office and a small second bedroom so it is not for couples only but because of its very open design, it would be great for an older child or very close friend. The hot tub is great. We used it every day. You can see the ocean from every room and get cozy in so many spots. Diane was the perfect owner. We dealt only directly with her and she was kind, warm and super responsive. We had an issue with something going on outside the house and Diane was on the phone to whoever she needed to reach to get the direct number of the contractor who had several trucks parked in wrong spot. He drove down and everything was resolved in an hour. She is top notch. We can not wait to come back and stay longer.

The house was beautiful! From the well-appointed kitchen, the unique art, and the wonderful book collection, the house itself was as majestic as the surrounding landscape. The hosts have put a lot of love and care into this property and it's a very special place. We plan to return.

Gilbert House is uniquely beautiful from the architecture to the decor. We enjoyed a relaxing stay in this comfortable, welcoming home. The amenities throughout were great. The entrance through the private flower filled garden sets the mood. Please note, while the garden is private, many areas of the house are not. Part of the interesting design is no doors on bedrooms or bathing areas of bathrooms. Make sure you're booking this with someone you are very close too or you will become close to them during your vacation! The house is located a short 5-minute drive from Gualala's restaurants and stores. It is near the bluff but is a row of homes between Gilbert House and the ocean. It does enjoy an unobstructed view across a meadow area looking north up the coast. FYI that if you are booking soon, there is construction on a home nearby and the crew's vehicles and equipment block that view to some degree. A consolation prize to make up for that was a wonderful myriad of wildlife including deer, foxes and just offshore, pods of humpback whales.

Great experience in a unique house

I've always loved Sea Ranch -- relaxing, quiet days walking along the bluffs admiring the scenery, and nights looking at the stars or soaking troubles away in the hot tub. This unique, architecturally interesting property was an exemplary experience -- close to the Bluff Trail access, a short walk to Walk On Beach or the rec centers, and a good view of the ocean. The house amenities were perfect. The hot tub was excellent. The wine was very much appreciated as well. Host also communicated promptly when I ran into a tech issue during booking.It is worth noting that while it has a great ocean view (with an upper story viewing deck area!), it does have a lot of windows and not a lot of doors or blinds. Sometimes I did wonder if the folks walking by could see inside.All in all a lovely experience

Great retreat from business as usual

Very clean, quiet, and hospitable. Unique home with all you need for a cozy retreat. Pitch black dark at night, great location for walks along the rugged coast, and nature all around. Not a home for a family stay; best for a coup or individual (nice wood furniture, great kitchen). Will return.

Far more than we could have hoped for

This house was superbly furnished and impeccably clean. As a couple, we welcomed the endless architectural features afforded by the open floor plan. All the design, furniture and art lent to a feeling of comfort and luxury. And the kitchen was amazingly well appointed--I'm not sure how the small number of occupants allowed could have even begun to use everything that was offered in abundance.

Great, peaceful stay with an amazing kitchen

This was a lovely house just a short walk from the bluffs, and with views of the ocean from the living room and the small upper deck (which would be great for whales, in season). The house was cozy and we stayed in and cooked almost every night. The kitchen is amazing -- a beautiful Viking gas stove and huge hood that allowed for high heat cooking and feasts. We would definitely stay there again!

Bed was very comfortable. Beautifully decorated and great for a couple. Full kitchen. The bottle of wine upon arrival was a great touch. Our only suggestion would be to have coffee available and bottled or filtered water because there is not a store close by.

Favorite!

We have been visiting Sea Ranch for 25 years. This house was one of my favorites! The number of windows was amazing. Views from everywhere and you could open many to let in the ocean breeze. The interior was so tastefully decorated making it feel warm and cozy. Both beds were comfortable. The kitchen was easy to work in. Diane, thank you so much for sharing your home!❀

Serene getaway at Sea Ranch

This home is stunning and exceeded our expectations. Views are amazing from the home and the walk to the cliff is perhaps 2 minutes and the beach just a few minutes more. The area is serene and at most you see a few joggers or a couple other people hiking. The office was a perfect place to take a few morning calls before a lovely breakfast on the beach. We didn’t cook a full meal (we picked up chowder and crab sandwiches in Bodega Bay to bring up with us), but the kitchen was well appointed with quality dishes (no plastic) and everything we would have needed to cook. Gualala just a few minutes up the coast is a cute little town with a few restaurants and shops. I highly recommend getting a massage at Healing Arts. Amazing! The primary bedroom’s mattress was super comfy. The house was immaculate. I would definitely choose this property again if just traveling with my spouse. Do read the posting carefully as this is an open concept home so I would not recommend for 2 couples. Diane (the host) is very quick to communicate which is so appreciated!

Gorgeous home in beautiful spot

Stunning home with partial ocean view, with impressive, open-air architecture. 3 minute walk to the bluff trail, and 2.5 miles from the cute beach town of Gualala, where you'll find galleries and restaurants. The bluff trail doesn't disappoint. Great amenities, fully stocked kitchen, furnace that heats the place up in no time. Didn't try the hot tub, but there's a Jacuzzi-like bathtub in the bathroom. The 3rd floor has a small outdoor patio and a small room with a picture window, perfect for watching the sunset. Couple of gotchas: the bedrooms, although lovely, comfy, and with great views, have no doors, and the black-out shades don't really block out the light, so bring a sleeping mask. The internet is spotty unless you're in the office. The bedrooms are on the 2nd floor and the staircase is slightly steep, so keep that in mind for the climbing-impaired. That said, it was altogether a delightful stay with a gracious host.
