Summary:
Constructed in 1868 for John Hernandez, the Liberty House is your quintessential historic Savannah townhome. With 2 bedrooms featuring 1 king, and 1 queen bed, this immaculate townhome will carry you to Savannahâs Colonial past. Boasting incredible stone fireplaces, William and Mary style furniture, and a beautiful, shared garden patio, your stay will be marked with high-class features that are truly authentic in Savannah.
SVR-02574
The Space:
Original in 1868, the Liberty House was the second home on East Liberty Street built for John Hernandez. Listed in Savannahâs city directories as a confectioner from St. Augustine, Florida, Mr. Hernandez is believed to have raised his family of four children in the home before selling the property in retirement. Since its construction, this authentic Savannah townhome has been meticulously cared for boasting original stone fireplaces, stair banisters, hard oak flooring, and incredible custom trim work.
Enter the property one of two ways, either from the ascending staircase on Liberty Street or through the private off-street parking at the rear of the property. As you enter the townhome you will be immediately awestruck by the preserved colonial past that is captured throughout the home. In the front of the home, you will find the formal living room with floor-to-ceiling windows, an original fireplace, high ceilings, and William and Mary furniture. Directly off this space is the formal dining room with a large hardwood dining table set for 6, a colonial-inspired chandelier, and stunning built-in bookshelves.
Along the main hallway connecting the townhome from front to back find the main floor powder room along with beautiful artwork. Follow the hallway to the rear of the property where a modernized gourmet galley kitchen awaits you. This fully appointed kitchen boasts high-end appliances, stone countertops, custom cabinetry, and a butlerâs nook. Find everything you need to cook delicious meals including cooking utensils, pots, pans, and dishware. A microwave and a coffee maker are provided.
Directly off the kitchen is the den presenting a comfortable sofa, chairs, and smart TV perfect for all your streaming needs. Step out on the back terrace and follow the staircase down to the shared garden patio. The ample room allows you to spread out and enjoy beautiful Savannah mornings and evenings under the shade of live oak trees, cathedral spires, and high privacy walls.
On the third level of the building find the two private bedrooms. In the master suite enjoy a brand-new king mattress, personal fireplace wrapped in granite, closet and dresser storage, and shuttered windows original to the home. The second bedroom features a new queen mattress, fireplace, and closet and dresser storage. Both private bedrooms feature their own bathrooms, well-appointed with everything you need from bath towels, hand towels, shampoo, and body wash.
Working remotely during your stay? The townhome has ample desk space and high-speed WIFI perfect for video conferencing and multi-tasking.

Guest Access:
You may access the entire parlor level and the outdoor courtyard space past the bottom of the stairs. The outdoor courtyard is the only shared space between you and the ground floor unit. The green dining set below the staircase is for the downstairs unit, and the larger black table and fire pit is for your use.
The Neighborhood:
Looking to be right in the heart of everything downtown Savannah has to offer? Near the historic Colonial Park Cemetery, the Hernandez House is in the North Historic District and boasts incredible access to all the best attractions, eats, and pubs.
Nestled on Liberty Street, a split city road featuring coble stone curbs, old-growth trees, and historic architecture, you will be surrounded by Savannahâs rich past. Steps from your door you can find yourself in one of the many small squares including Lafayette Square, Chippewa Square, Crawford Square, and Madison Square. History abounds with sites like Harper Fowlkes House, Savannah Theatre, Telfair Museums, Beach Institute of African American Culture, and many more.
Excite your taste buds with the many amazing restaurants all a stoneâs throw from the apartment. Grab incredible southern dishes at the highly-rated Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room. Craving a diner? Check out Claryâs CafĂ©. Want your favorite vegan dish? Fox and Fig CafĂ© is minutes away. Jumpstart your hunger by taking a slightly longer 16-minute to the Savannah River Street for more incredible dining like The Lady & Sons, Vicâs on the River, The Olde Pink House, and Treylor Park.
Fancy a pint? Stop into Six Pence Pub, a British-inspired pub, just minutes down liberty street. Looking for that small dive bar? Check out The Original Pinkie Masters for a cash-only bar with great deals and incredible staff. Need the perfect cocktail? Slide over to the Artillery Bar, a sophisticated speakeasy in a restored armory with imaginative cocktails and an extensive bourbon list. Want to enjoy your drinks in a funky art-inspired bar/restaurant? Check out Savoy Society. A homey bar/restaurant where pups are even welcomed!
Looking to do some local shopping or curb that sweet tooth? Take the short walk over to the historic City Market and enjoy four blocks of storefronts and restaurants including Savannahâs Candy Kitchen, The Little Crown by Pie Society, and Tree House Savannah, an incredible spot with a rooftop balcony, live music, and more. All right in the City Market!
Want to take it all in at once while riding or biking? We are just minutes away from Old Town Trolley Tours of Savannah and Savannah Bike Tours.
Getting around is easy with walkable streets, bike rentals, and uber service. Jump on Savannahâs public transit system with the Abercorn & Liberty SB stop just a 1-minute walk from Liberty Garden. Looking to travel via the Savannah River? Try out the Savannah Belles Ferries to see the beautiful skyline of Savannah from the riverfront.
Getting Around:
There is a FREE shuttle that picks up just 2 blocks away at Drayton St. and Perry St.. This will take you up and down the Historic District and can drop you off at City Market. Otherwise we recommend using Uber/Lyft as parking around town can be pretty chaotic and is usually less than $5 to get anywhere. There is also a free City "uber" called The Downtowner. You can download the app on your phone and get picked up for free as well :)
Other Things to Note:
Absolutely no parties.
Only the number of guests listed on the reservation is permitted at the property.
No illicit activities, peddling, or soliciting are allowed on the property.
Do not smoke on the property or near the home. Clean up all smoke butts.
Must be 21 years of age to drink alcohol.
Report all damaged property to the property owner immediately.
Treat the apartment with respect, as if it was your own property.
