Families in particular return year after year as the town offers something to suit virtually all tastes and budgets, including a nightlife that is engaging and vibrant yet bears little relation to any of the hustle, bustle (or overt commercialism) associated with the more developed pockets of the island.

'Golden cove' (in fact the same 'cala d'or' after which the town is named) is just a 700m stroll away with the larger beach of Cala Gran, regularly awarded a coveted Blue Flag for quality and facilities, only 100m further. In addition the beaches of Cala Esmeralda (1.4km), Ferrera (2.1km) and Serena (2.5km) are also close to hand while activities including watersports, boat hire, fishing trips, scuba diving, tennis courts and bicycle hire are all easily found in the local vicinity.
