A Stay Straight Out of a Horror Film: Imagine booking a cozy getaway, only to find yourself driving down an unkept dirt road to a property that feels abandoned. Upon arrival, a âgroundskeeperâ greeted us by handing us a knifeâand then informed us he lived in the garage. Suddenly, we realized weâd be sharing the property with a stranger we never agreed to stay with. The groundskeeperâs final words before we left still echo in my mind: âDonât take my job away.â He insisted that cleaning was his duty. Out of politeness â or perhaps superstition â we left him a tip. Inside, the nightmare deepened: bugs the size of mice crawled across the downstairs floors, the top lock on the front door was broken, and the bar fridge and laundry machines also did not work. The listing said it sleeps seven, but there were no clean linensâonly a ripped comforter hidden in a closet. Hairballs lined the bedroom floor, and the shower spewed brown water with no showerhead. When we left, the owner accused us of damaging items we never used and tried to extort money. We even had to cancel our debit card out of caution. The most chilling part? This all happened the day after Halloween. If you value safety, cleanliness, and peace of mindâavoid this property. No one should feel unsafe, unclean, or threatened after a simple vacation booking.
