Sans Souci is a comfortable vacation home situated on a private lake in the beautiful St. Waves subdivision! Within easy walking distance to the community tennis courts, community pool, shops, and restaurants, San Souci is the ideal location for an Outer Banks vacation. On the first level, you will find a living area, with built-in seating and a perfect gathering spot for the kids! Also on this level, you'll find four nicely sized bedrooms, two with queens, one with a double, and the third with two twin bunks, plus a shared hall bath.

The second living level boasts a spacious great room with a log fireplace and deck access to the hot tub. The nicely equipped kitchen has a breakfast bar with seating while the dining area nearby has access to the screened porch and makes mealtimes indoors or out a breeze. The primary bedroom on this level has a private bath, deck access, and incredible views perched over the lake.

The elevated sitting area is the ideal place to curl up with a good book and hide from the rest of your party. Just gaze out the windows at the lake and daydream about the vacation adventures that will follow in the coming days. The house was fairly spartan compared to the photos on the listing. The throw pillows shown in the photos were not there, and the comforters were more basic. The WiFi did not work with my iPhone nor my child’s Fire tablet, though it worked for my laptop. Half the outlets in the kitchen didn’t work and the appliances were all pretty dated. There was a dead cockroach sitting in the hallway on the first level. Some of the deck furniture is in rough shape, and the table shown wasn’t there. The mattress and pillows in the master suite were very uncomfortable. I can’t speak to the other rooms though.On the plus side, the master bath was very nice, and the hot tub was great to relax in. The central AC had no issues keeping the house cool. The property manager was very responsive when I mentioned the WiFi issue, but I didn’t bother calling the internet company they directed me to since we were only there a couple days. The neighborhood is very peaceful and secluded with some great local shops. Thankfully, we didn’t come to the outer banks for the house because it needs some TLC.

We loved this house and this neighborhood. The little lake behind the house was great for watching birds and even deer. It’s not far from a boardwalk to the beach. The house was set up well. We plan to stay there again.

First The cons: very poor communication and lack of follow through by vacasa . We did not get the gear credit of 250 after booking. VRBO has been amazing as always though!. We paid a cleaning fee which we were told by vacasa we had to sweep and vacuum b4 leaving. Also it was clear it hasn't been cleaned well prior to as the hot tub had a lot of sand in and master bath had a lot of mold/ mildew. There were belongings from previous renter still there. We were told access to pool 2 min walk but when given check in info the pool told could use was a 20 min drive and wrong code given. Also, the entrance with house code is dark and unlit at night and a family member fell on stairs bc of. Pros: check in to check out process was very easy. The property was great and spacious for 8 of us to spread out , have space or come together for games.so much quiet and privacy from neighbors. Hot tub was very nice after a day at beach or out. I felt the pictures adequately depicted the property. It was leisurely 5 min walk to beach access. Overall the property was amazing and if it wasn't managed by vacasa we would absolutely rent this property again. Waves market and deli and dollar general were a 5 min walk and ice cream was also a short walk. Great sunset on sound side and the deck was beautiful to sit on overlooking lake and having morning coffee.

Nice overall

Nice place overall. We enjoyed our stay. Extended family-7 total. Pool was not big, but not many people used it which was nice. Location is nice. Quiet community. Appliances outdated, had a DW leak, but Vacasa responded quickly. Beds and furniture uncomfortable. No major problems however. If we come back to OBX, we would probably look for a different place.

Poorly prepared customer service representatives

It was quite clear through my multiple phone calls in trying to get the entry code which was never sent and finally when it was sent after we got into the house the code was wrong. I learned that each customer representative I spoke to had a completely different explanation and none of them were giving me the correct information I needed except for one very qualified person. I would use VEBO again on a limited basis and only if I could not find someone else to meet my needs., I realized that most of the representatives I spoke with were totally unfamiliar with the outer banks and lead me to believe the 800 number provided is a centrally located call center not necessarily located in the area we we renting. Overall 3 stars and that’s basically for the house, the customer service 1 star. You have a lot of work ahead of you VRBO to be top in your field.

Salvo, NC stay

Wonderful trip! Had some nasty weather, but still made the best of it. Beautiful home in a quiet area. Very peaceful. Beach is also close by. Communication with host was pretty bad. The first time we messaged them upon booking it took nearly a month for a response. Future messages took days. I understand having a high volume, but that part was a little difficult. If you have an emergency or a question needing a quick response most definitely call the number to try to reach someone instead of messaging. Be sure to bring all personal items such as beach towels (shower towels were provided) No extra trash bags, paper towels, etc. we’re provided. Overall, great stay! Just lacking in communication.

Loved the salt pond view from the deck.

We enjoyed the house, location and hot tub. The back view of the pond with the birds and a turtle that was always swimming close by was wonderful. The house could use some updating (more comfortable furniture and beds), some window cleaning in the upstairs sitting area and a better stocked kitchen would be helpful. There were several little frying pans and one medium but not one large enough to handle six scrambled eggs at one time. There were some small/medium sauce pans but no large pots with a lid. With the remote location of the house and few restaurant options in the area cooking in was more often the case so the extra pots and pans would have been helpful. A small grill would also have been nice. Although there were some cleaning issues when we arrived Vacasa was super responsive and very willing to go above and beyond to correct the issues. We would definitely rent another home with Vacasa. And aside from the needed house updates we did enjoy our stay and would consider going back in the future.

great location dated house

The location of this house is amazing, loved the pond, the deck and the walking location to the beach. There is also a market and dollar general within walking distance. The house is large so there was plenty of space for everyone. The furnishings and kitchen supplies/appliances are outdated and there are some minor repairs that need to be taken care of and we had to clean the house when we arrived so that was disappointing. If you need beach items you need to purchase them yourself. We bought beach chairs and left them for the next family. We have stayed at several VRBO and it lacked the personal touches we have been used to. There was not a guest book to sign, the instructions are old and dated and not personal at all. On a positive the top deck and the hot tub were fabulous.

The house was honestly great. I did not have a single issue where I needed to contact the realty. Location was terrific in-between Hatteras and Kitty Hawk. Avon was only 12 minutes away from the property. Loved waking up in the morning having the sun shine through the windows looking out onto the small pond. You can hear the waves so clear and actually see the beach. The hot tub was a nice plus! They had everything you would need, a washer, dryer, dishwasher, and outdoor shower. Wish I stayed even longer.

Mold and mildew

Smell of mildew very strong when first coming into house especially on first floor. After ac on over night the smell was better but still there on first floor. However, there was black mold in different areas of the house as well as mildew. Also there is a constant water leak coming from the left side of the carport. Not sure where that was coming from. Housekeeping wise the place was clean. Kitchen equipment well stocked and hot tub and master bathroom shower was awesome.
