Exuding a regal elegance from a bygone era, this majestic and historic chateau keep in Charente makes for an exclusive holiday retreat and unforgettable wedding venue in the southern Loire Valley.

A stay in this six-bedroom masterpiece will feel as if you are living among the imperial elite, with medieval furnishings, rich tapestries, antique art, and sophisticated décor. Grand, stately rooms allow for both socialising and relaxing, including multiple reception rooms, one with a gorgeous fireplace, for dining or hosting groups.

Each of the luxury bedroom suites is uniquely and thoughtfully designed and includes en suite bathrooms and cozy fireplaces. While the Chateau De St. Louis Keep can accommodate up to 16 guests (15 in the bedrooms and one guest on an extra bed available upon request), it can be rented in tandem with the main Chateau De St. Louis to host a total of 40 guests.

The grounds are equally as impressive as the interior, with vast gardens, fruit trees, vineyards, a lake for fishing and parklands to explore, all surrounded by an impressive moat. There are also excellent bird watching opportunities!

A local restaurant is just a hundred yards from the château entrance and there is also a pizzeria opposite the village church. Nestled between Parthenay and Thouars, guests will be within close distance to the famous Loire Valley chateaux and, of course, the renowned wine and cuisine that attracts visitors far and wide.

The Keep has 6 bedrooms to sleep 15 guests. An extra bed can be added to bedroom 1 or 3 on request, bringing total capacity to 16 guests:

- Bedroom 1 with king size bed (180cm) and single bed (90cm)
- Bedroom 2 with double bed (150cm)
- Bedroom 3 with double bed (160cm)
- Bedroom 4 with 2 small double beds (130cm) and 2 single beds (90cm)
- Suite featuring bedroom 5 with double bed (140cm) and bedroom 6 with 2 single beds (90cm)

Each of the bedrooms has its own character; large fireplaces, stained glassed windows and classic medieval furniture.

The ground floor of the Keep encompasses a fantastic living room and a dining room. Please note the Keep is not self-catering.*

The keep and castle are surrounded by a dramatic moat, a lake where one can fish, and the superbly maintained gardens. There are also excellent bird watching opportunities within the estate.

*Guests staying at the Keep do not have access to a kitchen. Tea and coffee is available in the dining room and there is also a microwave to heat food.

Location:

Le Chateau de Saint Louis Keep is located in the most southern part of the Loire Valley in the region of Poitou-Charentes between the cities of Parthenay and Thouars. The castle is a 3 hour drive from Paris. By high-speed TGV train from Paris the travel time is 1.5 hours to Poitiers, which is a 45 minute drive to the castle.

Guests staying at the Keep do not have access to a kitchen and it is therefore not self-catering. There is a local restaurant a hundred yards from the grounds and a pizzeria close by. Alternatively guests can arrange a private chef (to be arranged in advance subject to an additional cost).

Yes. However, guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit.

Guests are required to be in possession of a valid insurance policy, which covers them for cancellations, loss of personal belongings, personal liability and any accidental damage caused during their stay.
