The historic, gothic hall is at the centre of the village yet cleverly maintains the feeling of a hidden hideaway with formal lawned grounds and ornamental ponds designed by William Sawrey Gilpin, historic listed features such as the Portuguese Sweet Chestnut Specimen tree, hidden folly and veteran trees where cuckoos can be heard. No wonder the Howard family (of Castle Howard fame) previously used this as a country residence.
A range of accommodation can be found at Calthwaite Hall to suit everyone including romantic micro-lodges, luxury country cottage and contemporary, cosy lodge style holiday homes.
