Midcentury Masterpiece in Deepwell Estates - Pool and View

Welcome to Sunburst Palms, a legacy tour stop of Modernism Week in Palm Springs in the historic neighborhood of Deepwell Estates. Designed by master architect Lawrence Lapham, the house has been painstakingly remodeled to preserve its original character while incorporating modern conveniences. At nearly 3000 square feet, this spacious home has been featured in photo essays in Conde Nast Traveler, Modernism Week, Travel and Leisure and Preservation Magazine. Cheery and brightly decorated, the house was originally built for the Academy Award winning composer Bud Fuhrer in 1956. Now, for the first time in seventy years, Sunburst Palms is available for your stay in Palm Springs.

Guests will enjoy a classic, kidney bean-shaped pool with its original rock fountain in a very private yard that features a gas grill, chaise lounge chairs and a patio with an outdoor living area. A second seating area is just off the patio with outdoor dining with seating for 6 that can accommodate 8 with folding chairs from the garage. The backyard features stunning views of Deepwell’s palm trees that sway and sparkle against the dramatic backdrop of the San Jacinto Mountains. The patio areas are warmed by state-of-the-art built-in heaters for the cooler months and cooled in the hot months by misting machines.

The house offers three bedrooms and four en suite bathrooms, including one for the media room, as well as an additional powder room for five bathrooms in total. Large floor-to-ceiling windows have spectacular views of the pool and palm trees and bring the sunlight inside. Each bedroom is beautifully appointed and all have electronic blinds to keep out the morning sun. The master bedroom features a king bed, a private bath with shower, a comfortable sitting area, a wall-mounted flat screen television, a spacious walk-in closet and access to the pool. Two guest bedrooms each have queen beds, wall-mounted flat screens and en suite baths with showers. The media room/t.v. den has a 76 inch flat screen television, a private bath with a shower and a sleeper sofa for two.

A gorgeous living room features two comfortable seating areas. The first includes the original sofa designed for the home, faithfully restored, that faces a unique terrazzo fire pit coffee table. The second seating area features a Smart TV and a baby grand piano that is kept in tune. The sunny kitchen features high end stainless steel appliances, plentiful counter space, a breakfast bar that seats three and a dining area that seats six. The kitchen is well equipped with an abundance of cabinet space.

The neighborhood of Deepwell Estates is rich with Hollywood history and some of its homes were owned by Elizabeth Taylor, Liberace, Hugh Hefner, and Jerry Lewis just to name a few. Only a short walk away is the newly established Prescott Preserve with miles of walking paths that offer magnificent mountain views. Just a few minutes away is the heart of downtown Palm Springs with its nightlife, popular restaurants and excellent shopping.

This home with its unique architectural features and upscale furnishings is not recommended for families with young children. Sorry to say we cannot allow cats, but we will consider one, possibly two dogs that are well behaved, flea free, housebroken and quiet — let’s discuss.

For stays over 30 nights, a mid-stay clean of 270.00 is required every 15 nights which will involve cleaning of all surfaces.

Concerning supplies, guests are provided with toilet paper and hand soap for their arrival. Premises are a vacation rental that rents from two nights to three months or longer so it is not practical for owners to offer supplies. Guests should not expect same amenities as they would receive at a hotel or other lodging. Guests are responsible for their own toiletries and should not expect any food, beverages, shampoo etc. Guests are welcome to use any cleaning supplies or pantry items left at the house at no charge to guest.

Pool heating is not included. For guests renting less than 30 nights, the price for pool heating is $75.00 a night from November through April. For the months of October and May, price is $50.00 a night. Pool heating is generally not needed from June through September. Guests renting 30 nights or longer may submit a pool heating deposit from which we will deduct the cost of pool heating making our best estimate of energy use from our gas bill -- please inquire for more details.

With its Modernist heritage and dramatic, unobstructed views of the mountains, Sunburst Palms is the quintessential Palm Springs experience.

"Probably the best rental I've ever stayed at. This is an incredible property, so stylish and has all of the amenities you need for an amazing stay. The hosts are generous with what they have provided, the furniture, the technology and the house itself are just stunning. Clark was responsive and so helpful. "The photos and description of this house are amazing but the house is so much better in person. Having all bedrooms with ensuites is such a great amenity when traveling with family. Plus this house has a separate powder room/pool bath and another bath in the theater room. There is plenty of room both inside and out to spread out and enjoy PS. The place is very tastefully decorated and amenities abound. The kitchen is very well stocked if you're doing meals in and it's within walking distance of Elmer's and a very short drive to multiple grocery stores. The house location is in a very quiet neighborhood with no busy streets nearby. The neighborhood is home to a lot of old Hollywood homes so it's fun to walk around and "site see" (the hosts provide a great map). Clark was great to deal with. Check-in and check-out were effortless."

I stayed for six nights with my hubby, mother-in-law and best friend. The home is gorgeous and was very clean. I felt like we were staying at someone’s personal home, not a rental! There’s a lot of history with the house and surrounding area. The neighborhood is Very quiet, which we loved. Sunrise and sunset is gorgeous from the back yard, looking up at the mountains. Clark was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. Very responsive and in a timely manner. We can’t wait to go back!

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Sunburst Palms! The house is stunning—beautifully restored to maintain its mid-century modern charm while offering all the modern conveniences you could ask for. The design, furnishings, and attention to detail are impeccable, and the floor-to-ceiling windows bring in incredible natural light and views of the private backyard and mountains.The outdoor space was perfect for relaxing, with a classic Palm Springs kidney-shaped pool, comfortable lounge areas. The location in Deepwell Estates was ideal—peaceful yet close to great restaurants, shopping, and downtown. Clark was a wonderful host—responsive and thoughtful. We truly enjoyed every moment and can't wait to return!

Our family enjoyed a perfectly relaxing time together in this beautiful example of Palm Spring’s celebrity heyday. The home’s location amongst an amazingly appointed neighborhood near downtown made for quick, easy trips to enjoy the city’s desert vibe and plethora of tasty restaurants. The perfect home in Palm Springs

I’ve recently returned from a week staying at Sunburst Palms with my husband and friends. The house was even better in person than the photographs suggest. It was like living in the most perfect 50’s property but with all the modern day conveniences. All of the bedrooms are spacious and the ensuite bathrooms are all perfectly appointed. The kitchen is spectacular, and comes with everything you could need to host a dinner party or relax by the pool with cocktails. The living room is so spacious and relaxing to sit around the fire pit whilst others are preparing food in the kitchen. The baby grand piano is a real added extra, especially when one of your party can actually play. For the evenings when we didn’t want to go out, we would use the media room to watch a movie. It’s the perfect addition to an incredible home. Finally the pool and back yard are beyond perfect. We spent most of our days here, relaxing in the pool or lounging on the sun loungers. We had a bbq one lunchtime which is so convenient with the outdoor dining table right next to it. Even the desert heat didn’t cause any problems, the misters really helped reduce the temperature when we were eating outside for lunch. I cannot recommend this house enough, the location and setting is ideal for visiting downtown as well as the Coachella valley and Joshua Tree. The communication with Clark, the house manager was perfect from bringing to end. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.
