The location of this property is ideal for travelers who wish to immerse themselves in local Sicilian culture. It is steps away from the Ballaro Marketplace, and an easy walk to via Emmanuel, the train station, and the port. The space inside the apartment is generous. The kitchen, though small, is well equipt. Having the balcony open over the street allows for fresh air, sunlight and chatter with the neighbors ( but not in English as this is an authentic neighborhood.) As we visited during Easter week, we were privy to a number of processions on our street that we, like everyone on the street, watched from the balcony. While you may find "nicer" areas, cleaner streets, upscale shops and touristy restaurants throughout Palermo, you will not find a more genuine, welcoming neighborhood, so convenient to everything, so fun for all. One note, the "first floor" in many Sicilan buildings is not ground level. Be prepared for steps. That said, at 70 years old, we managed with a sturdy hand rail and solid footing. Once in the apartment, there are no steps, just a cozy, well decorated, thoughtful space. Simona is a caring, accommodating host and we definitely hope to return.
