Bedroom 1
King size bed with pocket sprung mattresses. Wall mounted with flat screen TV with built in DVD player. Wardrobe storage space, side tables and lamps.

Twin beds with pocket sprung mattress, wardrobe, side tables and lamps plus a dressing table/desk. TV with built in DVD player also and views out into the rear garden.

Bathroom
Modern in style with a separate bath and walk in shower. Heated towel rail, toilet, storage and sink.

Garage
Dog crates and buggies are stored in here for guest use if you need them as well as wipe clean dog beds. There is a freezer for guest use – useful if you feed raw. Barbecue is in here too with a bucket of sand (hopefully you won’t need it!) The grooming kit is stored in here too for your use as well as many of the other items in our “For The Dogs” section above.

There is a range of items useful for any holiday such as cool box, picnic basket and blankets, fold up camp chairs and a couple of sun loungers.

Happy, relaxed stay

This was our second stay at Swallowdale. Comfortable, and a quiet location, makes this a relaxing place to stay. The location is ideal for short drives to the beach, several National Trust sites, as well as shops in North Walsham or Cromer.

We had a super last minute break at Swallowdale. Our second stay and it disappoint. The property is real comfortable and well equipped for all you would need. The garden is completely secure. A great location for walks and visits to the beach. We look forward to coming back, again.

Lovely weekend away

We had a lovely long weekend staying at Swallowdale. The accommodation was exactly what we required with the access to the garden from one of the bedrooms. An amazing Welcome Pack was left for us. The cottage was in a good quiet area but close enough to all the various beaches to walk our dogs on.

Relaxing stay at a great location

The bungalow was very well equipped and very dog friendly. The welcome basket was very much appreciated. We ate at the village pub a couple of times and found the food was tasty and very reasonably priced. The pub is dog friendly!

Very clean and well maintained

We booked a short stay at short notice at Swallowdale as we hadn't been away since March. Lovely bungalow located not far from the North Norfolk coast. Everything we needed was provided.... even a paddling pool for the dog which he was thrilled about! Very clean and well maintained and very dog friendly. Would highly recommend.

Lovely quiet area

Trunch is a very quiet peaceful village which suited us fine. Swallowdale was an exceptionally good property, probably the best equipped we had ever rented. The welcome pack was extremely generous and our dog loved the goodies left for him. There was nothing we could fault with this property and we hope to return.

A wonderful stay

I stayed at Swallowdale for a long weekend with my mum and our 2 dogs. It was such a perfect property for us! There was everything we needed and more. We felt so at home and our dogs loved it. The quiet walks from the door were great, we were sad not have have longer there to explore. The property was so dog friendly, having dog beds, blankets and crates we could use saved lots of packing space. The garden isn’t huge but so secure, we had no worries about letting them outside. We hope to come back next year!

Perfect for pooches

Great clean and spacious accommodation in a nice area. Everything we needed was supplied and plenty of spares too. The humans welcome package was much appreciated, as was the doggy one. Nice sized garden for our two to play in and plenty of walks around the area to wear them out. Short drive away there are plenty of beaches, lots of sand and water for the dogs to run off their dinner and treats. We all had a great time on a much needed break, was great to find somewhere so accommodating for our furry family.

Holiday

This is our 3rd cottage with East Ruston Cottages and it was fabulous, very dog friendly, close to the beach and woods (both by car), pub in village, excellent local shop that just about has everything you need in Walcott. Very comfortable 4 nights, lovely hamper for the humans and plenty of dog toys. Information folder supplied of local dog friendly places was very useful and worth a read. Garden very secure with outdoor seating.

Trunch holiday

Despite the weather we had an enjoyable time at Swallowdale. Welcome pack exceptional - very generous thank you and Rio says thank you for his treats. Having a secure garden for Rio, our Border Terrier, was great, we could let him out without worry. As we are both getting on in years and mobility is a bit of an issue we need accommodation on one level so Swallowdale was ideal.

A fabulous week in Swallowdale

We had a fabulous week at Swallowdale. It is the most dog equipped and friendly property I’ve ever stayed in. Catered perfectly for one old and one young dog, the enclosed garden is ideal. The welcome pack was fantastic full of lovely produce. We all had a fantastic time on the beaches at Bacton, Happisburgh, Mundesley and Cart Gap. Lots of lovely dog friendly cafes and pubs around, the local in Trunch is very welcoming and nice food. We loved Watson’s at Bacton after a beach walk for coffee and cake. Trip to see the seals at Horsey was great followed by tea at Poppylands. Also had a lovely afternoon in Holt and another in Cromer. All in all just perfect. We hope to be back soon

Review of Swallowdale - June 2025

Had a lovely stay at Swallowdale. Generous food package was welcome. Flooring in the bungalow good for the dogs particularly our tri-paw who didn’t slip at all. The bungalow was well equipped for dogs and humans. Small but secure garden for the dogs.

Well equipped bungalow

Stayed for a week recently. Well equipped bungalow in a nice quiet village. Good road networks for visiting the local area and dog friendly beaches. Supermarkets not too far away. Would love to visit again, but unfortunately due to lots of military aircraft noise our 10 year old dog who suffers from noise anxiety was quite stressed at times.

why i would always go back!

well this is why we choose east ruston holiday and always go to swallowdale. i unfortunately had a nasty fall on the beach day one of our holiday and broke my wrist. sue (at east ruston) and caroline (the owner of swallowdale) went above and beyond to make sure i was ok, had transport and everything we needed to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. this is why we go back twice a year as swallowdale is so dog friendly! that while i was stuck in hospital my dogs had everything they needed at the bungalow. caroline always makes sure you have everything you need! i would never go anywhere else as i feel like its home from home. the only downfall is i never want to leave and get really bad holiday blues when we do!

Winter Break

Swallowfield is very well equipped, and was warm with comfortable beds. The back garden is 100% dog proof, and sniffy. The area is very quiet, and central to lots of places to visit. A nice welcome pack for both humans and dog. Had a nice meal at the pub in the village.

Comfortable bungalow in a peaceful location. Suited our country dog who is not used to having neighbours ! Location provided easy access to beach in Mundersley, Tavern Tasty and North Walsham shopping. Generous welcome pack for us and our dog. We hope to stay here again.

Enjoyable mini break

We had an enjoyable long weekend break with Darcy our golden retriever at Swallowdale. Impressed with the doggy goodie bag and human one! No need to rush out to the shops on arrival. Good location to get to Bacton and Mundsley beaches and not far from Cromer. Very comfy beds and sofa.

A quiet, peaceful dog friendly cottage.

Swallowdale is the most dog friendly place we have ever stayed, everything our cocker spaniel could need was there. He had a wonderful, relaxing stay (being a reactive dog he finds relaxing difficult at times). The area was so quiet and peaceful, a real home from home. Us humans also enjoyed our stay with a very well equipped kitchen and 4 of the best nights sleep we have had in a long time! We can also highly recommend Bacton Woods (only 10 minutes away) for some lovely dog walks. We all had a great holiday and will be booking with East Ruston Cottages again as the level of dog friendliness can not be beaten.
