THE GREEN TRANSITION in our surroundings is important.
Step by step, the cabin and the life around it are adapted to CIRCULAR ENERGY AND ECONOMY, as far as possible.
âš REconnect to Nature by REpair & REuse & REcycling âš
This means making use of natureâs resources in a sustainable, efficient, and long-term wayâbalanced and in harmony.
One example is the Top-Down Burning technique used in wood stoves: Less toxic gases in the smoke, less soot, and a happier nature!

NATURE CLOSE TO GĂTES STUGA
Several small streams nearby flow into the RĂ„ne River. The RĂ„ne River is one of Swedenâs untouched rivers, offering excellent fishing for grayling, salmon, pike, and perch. The area is also part of Natura 2000.
The access to MUDDUS NATIONAL PARK, part of the LAPONIA WORLD HERITAGE SITE, makes Götes Stuga an excellent base for wilderness adventures.
The distance to Muddus National Park is only 30 km from the cabin.
Also worth visiting is EKOPARK LEIPIPIR, a very beautiful forest area near Nattavaaraby!

(See also this cozy cabin: Tiny Timber Lodge)
A mini house with two beds and the same off-grid features is also available on my property.
Here, simple living is slightly more modern, with electricity and the option of Wi-Fi. Of course, there is an outdoor toilet, sauna, and no running water!

MORE ABOUT THE CABIN
The cabin has lovely decks with fantastic views of the small forest lake. There are tables and benchesâperfect for dinner or simply enjoying the view.
The cast-iron stove is wood-fired with free-standing heat storage, providing cozy warmth even when snowstorms rage outside. Atmospheric lighting comes from solar-powered lamps.
Food is prepared on a gas stove, and a ground cellar keeps food cool during summer. In winter, food can be stored outdoors in a designated cold box, functioning as a natural refrigerator.
There is also a charcoal grill for those who enjoy barbecuing. Bring charcoal or purchase it at the local grocery store in the village.
âž»
THE SAUNA
Firewood for one sauna session is included. Additional firewood can be purchased for 100 SEK per bag.
The sauna is wood-fired and has a 20-liter water tank, which heats up while the stove is burning. You wash yourself with warm water in basins and enjoy the soothing steam.
Washing takes place inside the sauna; the water drains through an opening in the floor.
The sauna is located right by the lakeshore, making a quick dip followed by warming up again in the sauna especially refreshing.
Tip: Take some warm water with you for washing dishes in the cabin after your sauna session.

đ„ MAKING A FIRE IN THE STOVE đ„
Learn the TOP-DOWN BURNING technique for wood stoves.
This means placing large logs at the bottom of the stove, then building upwards with smaller pieces of wood, finishing with kindling and birch bark on top. Light the fire at the top and let it burn downward.
This method is highly energy-efficient and improves fire safety in both stove and chimney. Most importantly, it prevents the formation of dangerous black, sticky soot (tar) in the chimney.
Guests are expected to use the Top-Down Burning technique and maintain a COMFORTABLE INDOOR TEMPERATURE of +20°C. A wall thermometer shows the temperature.
SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
There is one bedroom with a bunk bed and a single bed. In the living area, there is a 120 cm bunk bed, where the lower bunk functions as a sofa during the day.
In total, there are 5 comfortable beds. Duvets, pillows, bed linen, and towels are included in the price.

OUTDOOR TOILET & WOODSHED
The outdoor toilet has a cozy interior and a urine-separating system with two containers. Urine is led via a hose to a stone soakaway outside the building. Solid waste goes into the rear container.
The toilet seat is made of insulated material, making it warm immediately.
After use, sprinkle one spoon of compost material into the rear container. Important: Do not add it to the front urine sectionâit will cause blockage.
In winter, it is recommended to pour a cup of hot water into the front urine section to prevent freezing.

THE ENVIRONMENT
REconnect to Nature by REcycle â REduce â REuse â REpair â REcover
We try to recycle as much as possible of old items and furniture. We repair rather than buy new.
All waste and food scraps are sorted and recycled. Containers are available both inside the cabin and near the outdoor toilet/woodshed.
Food waste is composted and turned into soil for growing potatoes, kale, broad beans, and rutabaga.
We use environmentally friendly cleaning products, dish brushes made from natural materials, and washable dishcloths. The âplastic bagsâ are compostable.
âž»
THE LAKE WATER
Lake water can be used as drinking water. Guests who prefer tap water may collect it from my home. Drinking water is stored in a stainless steel container inside the cabin.
It is very important not to pollute the lakeâfor example, by washing hair with shampoo or pouring dishwater into it. Dishwater should be emptied into the stone soakaway located to the right of the outdoor toilet.

Circular thinking and reuse permeate the atmosphere at Götes Stuga, and much has been preserved in its original condition from when the cabin was built. Scratches on the floor, for example, are seen as signs of life once lived.
The woodshed, outdoor toilet, and waste sorting area are located in the same building, a few meters behind the cabin.
Vielen Dank, liebe Lena!
My friend and I had a fantastic time there.
Everything was as we had imagined it: quiet, simple and natural.
Lena is an incredibly warm and uncomplicated host who was always helpful and impressed us with her knowledge of nature.
The isolation and peace on a private lake, with just ourselves and nature, meant that we were able to completely forget about everyday life and focus on what is important in life.
We stayed there for two weeks in March. The place is perfect to slow down and connect with the nature. Itâs surrounded by beautiful nature and has a rustic charme. Our host was very helpful with any matters we had and super friendly. Weâll most certainly return. Weâre very glad, weâve found this place. Thanks for all!

Me and my girlfriend were on the Kungsleden and were looking for a quiet place to regain strength.
I found the dreamlike cabine by the lake in Nattaavaara quickly on the internet.

The service of the hosts, as well as the friendliness were just great. They took so good care of us and showed us a old swedish tradition. Everyone who is looking for peace and quiet has come to the right place there.
Thanks for the good service.
