We loved our stay in Montpellier in this lovely, well-located apartment. Despite some glitches in communication (and an unexpected amount of paperwork involving a confusing array of websites) we got in, acquired a much-needed second key, and very much appreciated the responsiveness of the management team once we were in town.
The beds are comfortable, the apartment gracious and easy for 3 adults to both enjoy time together and get some privacy as well. And the nearby Boucherie provided a veal stew for dinner one night we are still talking about! This is a perfect home base for exploring the town and surrounding area.
A lovely, large apartment in great central area, close to everything - good public transportation!
Overall. the apartment was very good. Two issues arose however -- one was that the building directly contiguous to our apt. was under construction -- the noise (early morning banging and sawing sounds) and the dust (couldn't open the beautiful french doors onto front terrace w/o lots of dust coming in) were not pleasant. The owner had no control over this, but could have at least warned us in advance about it. The 2nd issue is certainly under their control, however. We were only given one key to the apt, and found out quickly how problematic that could be. Our first morning, my husband, daughter & her boyfriend went out to get coffee & groceries. They locked the door on their way out, as they knew I was going to be showering.. My daughter came back to the apartment, while the other two were still shopping. I was unable to open the apt. door for her, as it only unlocks by key. I called the manager's office immediately and asked if they could please give us a 2nd key. The man who anwered said they only had one key per rental. I noted that this was a practical issue as well as a safety concern -- if there were a medical emergency or a fire, I could not get out of the apt, nor let anyone in! This is a significant safety issue, and was not noted anywhere in writing or in verbal explanations. I again asked for a 2nd key - not just for safety reasons, but also noting that we are VRBO owners in the U.S., and always provide at least 2 keys to renters, especially if there is more than one person. The likelihood that over a week's stay, we would not all be going out or coming back at the same time was very high! I also asked to manager to pass my concerns & request onto the Owners. He refused and said that they could not provide us with another key & that we could not have a duplicate key made. Not Acceptable!! The woman who checked us out when we left was extremely helpful and understanding. I pointed out the important information that was not in the renter's booklet in the apartment - also noting that the directions for checking out was only in French & not easy to translate & that the WiFi was noted in all CAPS - which was not accurate & took multiple different trys to figure it out. Improvements needed on the managerial & communications side!!
Loved staying at this apartment for its space and the light and airy feeling. I was only one traveler, so master bedroom suited me well! I would not have wanted to stay in the other bedroom, as it was apart from the rest of the apartment, across a patio, with less light. The kitchen/dining rooms were lovely and amenable to preparing meals, however, recommend new kitchen cooking utensils, have paper towels on hand for guest, cleaning materials and a bottle of water would be nice upon arrival - in other apartments I've rented, there were soaps and even a bottle of wine to welcome us....living room is spacious and balcony brings in light and city life ~ tv did not function and concierge, though very sweet, was not able to get it to work. Recommend a thorough deep cleaning, update kitchen utensils and make sure all electronics work and this is a marvelous space to enjoy while in Montpellier!
