Welcome aboard The Aviator—a one-of-a-kind private retreat tucked inside a beautifully preserved 1920s Craftsman airplane bungalow in the heart of Modesto.
Thoughtfully renovated while honoring the home’s original character, The Aviator combines vintage charm, aviation-inspired details, and the modern comforts travelers appreciate. From the moment you arrive, you’ll discover a space that feels less like a generic rental and more like a destination with a story.
THE SPACE
The Aviator is a private upstairs apartment with its own entrance, offering a peaceful and comfortable home base for up to two guests. Inside, warm architectural details and carefully selected aviation décor celebrate the adventurous spirit of early flight while creating a space that remains inviting, practical, and easy to enjoy.
Whether you’re visiting Modesto for work, a weekend getaway, a family occasion, or an extended stay, you’ll have everything you need to settle in and feel at home.
FULL KITCHEN
The newly updated kitchen gives you the freedom to prepare anything from a quick breakfast to a complete dinner. It includes a full-size refrigerator, range, microwave, coffee setup, cookware, dishes, glassware, utensils, and dining essentials.
Enjoy coffee before heading out for the day, bring home ingredients from a local market, or relax with your favorite meal in the comfort of your own space.
IN-UNIT LAUNDRY
A private washer and dryer are located inside the apartment—an especially convenient feature for longer stays, business travelers, and guests continuing to their next destination.
COMFORTABLE LIVING
The apartment includes a comfortable living area, sleeping quarters, private bathroom, climate control, Wi-Fi, and thoughtfully arranged furnishings. Historic details give the space personality, while modern updates make your stay comfortable and uncomplicated.
Throughout the apartment, vintage aviation artwork and carefully chosen accents pay tribute to the home’s 1920s origins. The theme is distinctive without overwhelming the space, creating an atmosphere that is playful, sophisticated, and uniquely Modesto.
A PIECE OF MODESTO HISTORY
The Aviator places you close to the streets and neighborhoods that helped shape Modesto’s identity.
Nearby McHenry Avenue is closely connected to the city’s celebrated cruising culture—the world immortalized by Modesto native George Lucas in “American Graffiti.” Lucas grew up in the neighborhood, and his childhood home is within walking distance of The Aviator.
Guests can explore local landmarks, discover Modesto’s connection to classic American car culture, and experience a community whose history helped inspire one of cinema’s most nostalgic portraits of American life.
A CONVENIENT MODESTO LOCATION
The Aviator is centrally located near McHenry Avenue, providing convenient access to restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, medical facilities, downtown Modesto, and many of the city’s best-known attractions.
The neighborhood is an excellent starting point for exploring:
- Downtown Modesto and the Gallo Center for the Arts
- McHenry Mansion and McHenry Museum
- Modesto’s Graffiti Summer landmarks and classic-car culture
- Local restaurants, cafés, breweries, and nightlife
- Queen Bean Coffee & Social House
- LGBTQ+ welcoming destinations, including Splash Bar and the historic Brave Bull
- Nearby hospitals, urgent-care centers, and medical offices
- Day trips throughout California’s Central Valley and Sierra foothills
The location is also convenient for guests visiting family, attending a performance or event, traveling for healthcare, or working temporarily in the Modesto area.
PRIVATE ARRIVAL
Guests have a dedicated entrance and digital-lock access, allowing for a straightforward and convenient arrival. Detailed check-in instructions will be provided before your stay.
Street parking is available in front of the house. We ask guests to park considerately and avoid blocking neighboring driveways.
GOOD TO KNOW
The Aviator is located upstairs and requires the use of stairs, so it may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Because this is a historic home, some of its personality comes from the details that make older houses special. We have thoughtfully modernized the apartment while preserving its original character and charm.
The home’s plumbing is approximately a century old, so only toilet paper may be flushed. A covered waste bin is provided in the bathroom for wipes and other personal items.
The apartment accommodates a maximum of two registered overnight guests. Visitors are welcome, but parties, events, and additional overnight guests are not permitted. Smoking and vaping are not allowed indoors.

We have put considerable care into creating a space that feels comfortable, memorable, and genuinely connected to the history of our home and community. We want you to feel welcomed from the moment you arrive and completely at ease throughout your stay.
We respect your privacy, but we are available if you have questions or need assistance.
