Porta Vittoria is a neighborhood that harmoniously combines the past and the present, an area where historical memory coexists with urban planning and inclusive spaces.



A stroll through history and the Risorgimento

Imagine arriving in Piazza Cinque Giornate, the heart of the area: here stands the monument by Giuseppe Grandi (1895), erected where the Spanish gate of Porta Tosa once stood, later renamed Vittoria to commemorate the victory of the patriots during the Five Days of 1848. Around it, the two remaining toll booths testify to the neoclassical appearance of the old gate.



The neighborhood itself has rural, working-class origins: until the late 19th century, it consisted of vegetable gardens and farms, while it slowly urbanized while maintaining a dual spirit—proletarian and lower-middle-class.



Art Nouveau elegance and contemporaneity

Walking along Via Mameli and its surroundings, you come across elegant Art Nouveau buildings such as Casa Frisia, a significant exponent of this style in Milan. Further along, Palazzo Borgazzi on Corso di Porta Vittoria features elegant decorative telamons.

GET AROUND
