The Neighborhood:
Whitechapel is a really vibrant area which is constantly evolving. You can walk to some of the best parts of East London - Victoria Park, Columbia Road Market and Shoreditch are all so close.
There are some beautiful old buildings, great pubs and it's only a short tube ride into the centre of town which make it a really great place to stay. The surrounding areas and Aldgate itself are fantastic for shopping. Aldgate High Street has a range of well-known eateries and traditional pubs. Meanwhile, just around the corner is the entrance to Brick Lane, where you can find a plethora of bohemian and vintage clothing shops.
There are two popular markets in the area. The first of which, Spitalfields, Londonâs oldest market is now a 7 day shopping destination with style, arts and traders markets. Conversely, Petticoat Lane Market is only open on a Sunday, but it is worth the wait.
Getting Around:
Whitechapel tube station is located in Zone 1.
Tube -There are two main tube stations in the Whitechapel area, these are Aldgate East and Whitechapel which are both situated on the District and Hammersmith & City lines.
A journey from Whitechapel to Victoria would take approximately 20 minutes.
A journey from Whitechapel to Kingâs Cross would take approximately 15 minutes.
Buses - The following bus routes run through/from Whitechapel:
25 â towards Ilford or Oxford Circus. (24-hour service).
106 â towards Finsbury Park.
205 â towards Mile End Park or Paddington. (24-hour service).
254 â towards Aldgate or Holloway
D3 â towards Bethnal Green or Isle of Dogs
The following night bus runs through/from Whitechapel:
N253 â towards Aldgate or Tottenham Court Road.
