Situated smack bang in the centre of south London, Brixton has become a go-to haunt for foodies, clubbers, artists and rockers alike. An eclectic clash of Caribbean culture, hipster vibes and good-old South London attitude. There may be more pop-ups and cocktail bars than a decade ago, but it will take a lot more than that to kill Brixton’s vibe.

This cultural mecca is filled with a sense of community, which is evident for anyone who has shopped in Brixton Village or enjoyed a drink with local residents outside the Ritzy cinema. And for those in search of a party, Brixton’s famous live venues, including the Brixton Academy and Hootananny, draw in the late night crowds.

Film fanatics unite at Ritzy Cinema and CafĂ©. One of the joys of living in Brixton is having access to this amazing, vintage feel cinema. It’s ideal for those looking to catch the latest indie flick or even grab a ticket to the latest blockbuster. The Ritzy cinema is located inside of Brixton’s historic Electric Pavillion, which opened in 1911. As one of England's earliest cinemas, this picturehouse has become a much-loved part of the community.

When living in Brixton you will most likely find yourself at Brixton Village Market at some point. Whether it’s to grab some fresh produce or relax at one of the many cafĂ©s and bars.

The Market blends traditional stalls and chic indie pop ups perfectly. Here you’ll see the cultural blend that Brixton is best known for. There’s not much you can’t get at the market, with everything from fishmongers to African fabric stores. We all need a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life and what better place to unwind than Brockwell Park? This is one of the biggest green spaces in Brixton and is perfect for getting some fresh air. Try And spot the amazing wood art dotted around the south of the park or grab a coffee at the Brockwell Park Café to warm up on cold days. The park also has a walled garden, community greenhouses, tennis courts, a pond and even an outdoor community pool.

Getting Around:
One of the great attractions of Brixton is the fact it’s on the Tube network. Brixton is at the southern end of the Victoria line, meaning morning commuters have a good chance of finding a seat for the 10-minute journey into London’s West End, while the nearby Tube station at Stockwell gives access to the Northern Line. Nearby Loughborough Junction is on Thameslink, with trains to Blackfriars (in nine minutes), Farringdon (in 14 minutes) and St Pancras (in 18 minutes), although locals complain of overcrowding in the rush hour.

Bus links are good, too. Brixton is served 24 hours a day by a wide selection of bus/night buses, with all the major routes passing outside the Tube station, with the number 2 to Marylebone via Victoria and Marble Arch, the number 3 to Trafalgar Square, the 59 to King’s Cross via Waterloo and Holborn, the 133 to Liverpool Street via London Bridge and the 159 to Marble Arch via Trafalgar Square and Oxford Circus.
