Kitty Hawk Waterfront

The house & layout are very nice. The kitchen and dining areas are stupendous. Pool & backyard are nice. The Sound's water behind the house was disappointing (dirty and poor odor). We had a few unwelcome burps (grill had been poorly maintained and not usable; upper-level A/C was non-functional upon arrival; and had a check-in snafu), however, the Owner/Property Manager was attentive and accommodating (replaced the grill the next day /w a new one; set up A/C servicing which was corrected by end of third day; and quickly resolved our check-in issue). Probably more a result of personal preferences and expectations, the overall rating for me is not great but certainly above average. Again, the Owner/Property Manager was great.

Beautiful home!

We rented this property for our summer vacation with our family on our first trip to the Outer Banks. There were 11 of us included our parents, adult children, and grandchildren. The house was large and gave everyone their own room with plenty of space throughout the home. The outdoor areas were wonderful and we enjoyed the pool very much. The evenings on the dock were nice with the sunsets. The walkway behind the home made for nice bike rides in the evening. We were able to ride into the other neighborhood that had a bike/walking track that was great for a longer bike ride. The kitchen was wonderful and had everything we needed. There are two refrigerators which was a benefit. There was an additional full sized refrigerator in the basement kitchen area also. We did go to the beach several days, parking could be a challenge if you don't arrive early enough if you go to the area with bathrooms. One day we went to the public access directly across the highway from the neighborhood. We found a "hidden" parking area on the right as we approached the beach. There are no bathrooms but it was a convenient location. Everything in the home was wonderful. The interior of the home was clean and well maintained. I gave cleanliness 4 stars because the outdoor/screened porches were sandy and had not been swept by the cleaning crew. Carol was a wonderful host and was very responsive to any requests or questions. We have never had a better host offer such attention. We would stay again!!

Multi generational vacation

This home was absolutely perfect. We enjoyed every part of it from the large screen porches, game room with lots of seating and activities, to the well stocked open kitchen. The outdoor space and location were even better - the pool was great, several spent time on the dock reading and lounging, there's a great walking/bike path along the water, we had a nice happy hour in the backyard. There was plenty of great seating in every area. The location was great in general very central to drive to many things. Yet there were two great restaurants right at the entrance to the neighborhood which was an easy walk. We also utilized the bikes and biked to the beach and Kitty Hawk Museum. Carol was very responsive and helpful with everything we needed. We had a a seafood boil brought in one night and the person who prepared it said it was one of the best VRBOs she had seen for a family. You can't go wrong here you will love it.

Great place for a beach vacation!

Great communication with the owner. House is wonderful! Best kitchen, very well stocked. Beds comfortable, plenty of bathrooms. Porches great for relaxing, pool was refreshing and the beach is a short drive away. Lots of things to do close by including an aquarium and a nature preserve with lots of birds and turtles!

Perfection in Kitty Hawk

We had a perfect family vacation at The Ship’s Captain, an ideal house for 12 of us, ages 1 to 78! The living areas were nicely appointed and well maintained, with plenty of space including 2 sitting areas on the main floor, one on the lower level, and 2 on the upper level, and 3 levels of screened-in porches. We had lovely breakfasts and dinners together, both indoors and out. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we could need plus a lot more. We appreciated the large stove, double oven, many small appliances and the extra kitchen work area on the lower level. The walk-in pantry with an extra sink and refrigerator and laundry room with countertop space are two rooms I wish I had at home! The kids loved the game room with ping-pong and foosball. We used the pool every day – the back yard is quiet and beautifully maintained. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and there were enough bathrooms for each family to have its own, as well as an outdoor shower that was convenient after trips to the beach. Three in our party are avid fishermen, so one of the most attractive features of The Ship’s Captain was the dock and nearby public launch ramp. Most noteworthy was how you responded to our request to provide boat access from the dock. Within 2 days Rico was installing a ladder and a grab bar on the dock! Now that is what defines a wonderful host. We were so impressed and grateful. In short, this house and its host exceeded our expectations in every respect.

Wonderful Stay!

We had a wonderful week at this beautiful property. There was plenty of space for everyone to spread out, and the floor plan was very accommodating for our group that included 2 families with young kids. The game room was the hangout for the kids, and the adults spent most of their time on the screened porches. The private pool on site is great for lounging, and we loved also having access to the neighborhood pool for a change of scenery. The beach was a 2 minute drive to a public access with parking, lifeguards and bathrooms. Highlights were paddle boarding in the sound, fishing from the dock, and walking to the book store at the entrance to the community. The house was clean and well stocked, and the communication with the host was fantastic!

outer banks first time there

this house is beautiful and the kitchen is well equipped. the pool here is absorbing ground current and it gives a little tingle if your grounded. but the community pool is just a short walk down the street and is perfect and so that's what we used. the owner responds immediately to any issue. she did send someone to wrap the metal handrail on the pool so no one would get shocked, but we were still afraid to use it.

We had a great visit The inside of the house is great. Lots of room and the game room is a fun area to hang out and enjoy each other. The screened in back porch was also very roomy and we loved hanging out there int he evenings, enjoying family time. The pool was fun and the back yard was beautiful. Noting if you have a lot of older people, the access to the dock and kayaking is very difficult. We were unable to kayak from the dock as there were no ladder into water from dock and the water was considerably low in order to get it into water, our only option was to carry kayak about a tenth of a mile down to area there was a small sandy area and it was difficult due to weight of kayaks. Also to note for older guests, is there are alot of stairs to the paths at backyard. The property was great, these are just notes to assist others if they want to kayak or paddle board. Also the wifi was not the best. Carol was a fantastic host and she was very helpful in assisting us with any questions or assistance we needed. Also the community pool at the beginning of the property was great and never many other people in it. Thank you Carol for sharing your home and assisting us in having a fantastic stay!

Fabulous Family Vacation Spot!

The Captains Cottage was impressive and better than expected! There were 12 of us including 3 generations with more than enough space for everyone. Very clean upon arrival, comfortable beds & pillows and every kitchen gadget you need. The teens & young adults loved the gameroom & the big tv's. The pool was amazing, we thought it might be small but it fit multiple people at once with 4 seats in the water great for us older folks to sun bathe & the grandkids loved floating around. The property was absolutely beautiful and well cared for. The neighborhood is quite and very safe feeling. The teens & young adults rode beach bikes all over the area for fun. We rented a pontoon for the week & kept it at the dock. The dock was a bit high off the water but we were all able to get down onto the boat & up off with a little effort safely. We enjoyed the sunsets on the dock and watched fireworks on the dock from multiple areas without having to deal with traffic. Truley the most relaxing mutligeneration family vacation we have ever had!

Great stay!

PROS: Tons of space- this house is spread out and certainly big enough for a few families to have their own space. Game room was wonderful for the kids, and the adults enjoyed it as well. Location is close to so much, beach is right across the street, and you have direct access to the sound out the back door. Screened porches were perfect. We loved having a pool to relax and play in. Communication with the owner was super easy. CONS: There seems to be some sort of an electrical issue with the pool, like something isn't grounded right. When you touch the hand rail and step in the water you get a little zing. We also noticed that if you have any cuts/scrapes/even hang nails when you make contact with both the water and the pool decking- more zings, sometimes a little painful. It wasn't bad enough to keep us out, we just paid attention to avoiding those. You have to provide your own paper goods such as toilet paper, paper towels, and trashbags so make sure to add those to your grocery list. Bring bug spray! This is out of control of anything the owner can take care of, but it's worth noting that you'll get lots of mosquito bites here. The oven door did not seal properly and makes the outside of the oven VERY hot. I burned my hand. No ventilation for stove-top cooking. No access to garage for parking. Overall this was an awesome place to stay, and we would definitely stay here again. A few updates and it would be perfect! We would recommend it for sure!

Wonderful home for a family vacation

My husband and I, along with four of our adult children and theee spouses/significant others very much enjoyed staying in the Ship Captain’s Cottage. The house, location and amenities were perfect for is. The many bedrooms and baths were nicely appointed and there are lots of rooms/ porches/ outdoor spots where we could all gather or break off for some alone time. The kitchen is well equipped and large so we could all be hands on in meal prep and cleanup and we enjoyed our dinners on the screen in porch and gathering around the dining room table to played games at night. We enjoyed the dock, the pool and the game room too! It was so nice to be at the end of the cup de sac where it was peaceful , yet it was nice to have an easy trip (except for crossing the highway!) to the beach and other places of interest. Carol is a wonderful host. She is super responsive when contacted with questions or concerns and doesn’t hesitate to call you to expert getting your question answered or issue resolved. She was a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end.

Awesome stay!

We had a wonderful time at The Ship Captain’s Cottage. The accommodations were wonderful, from the fully decked out kitchen to the game room where the whole family could play ping pong, foosball and more. The sunsets off the pier were magnificent. We would go back in a heartbeat!

One sister said the only bad thing was that we weren't staying another week! Another sister used the elevator exclusively because she chose a bedroom on the lower level and isn't fond of stairs--very helpful! With 7 of us, everyone got their own bedroom, but I can confess, we only used about half of the 6,000 sq. ft.

Family Retreat

We all had a lovely vacation. The house was very spacious and the kitchen was perfect for cooking family dinners. The dock on the sound was our favorite spot for happy hour. Our only disappointment was that we were not able to kayak and paddle board. It was very windy and the access was not easy. Carol was very responsive to our needs.
