We are delighted to welcome the Mackenzie House back to our portfolio!
Recently refurbished with upgraded furnishings and finishes, this centrally located elegant four-storey town house serves as the cornerstone within the historic corridor of Kirkcudbright's picturesque harbour town, overlooking MacLellan's Castle, and a lively working quayside.
Rich in original features and true to its historic architecture, Mackenzie House offers spacious, comfortable accommodation for families and friends while retaining a classic and timeless character. The first floor sitting room, with its large corner windows, provides panoramic views of a 16th century Castle, the river serving an active harbour port, and offers a unique vantage point for Kirkcudbright's lively civic parades and celebrations. It is a dream location for photographers, capturing the daily rhythm of this eclectic artists' and fishing town, as well as the ever-changing colours of the Castle at sunset.
To the rear of the property, a delightful "secret" large walled garden is accessed via a cobbled path. This peaceful, sun-filled private retreat offers views towards the Church and features attractive planted borders around a central lawn. A separate patio area provides the perfect spot for alfresco dining, while guests are welcome to enjoy the garden's seasonal produce, including flowers, rhubarb, apples and pears.
Kirkcudbright, known as the âArtists' Town', is a thriving and welcoming destination with independent shops, galleries, museums, cafĂ©s, pubs and a variety of dining options all within easy walking distance. Highlights include the popular new Swally ân' Scran restaurant and Skipper's Scran Van serving fresh seafood on the quayside during the summer months, the Kirkcudbright Dark Space Planetarium, the Wee Pottery, colourful Artist alleys and gardens, Millar's new wine bar and local Gin Distillery all within walking distance. The town also boasts community-run recreational facilities including an 18-hole golf course, swimming pool and gym. Sandy beaches, scenic walking and cycling routes, sailing, fishing, pony trekking and birdwatching are all just a short drive away.
