True and full oceanfront condo with a lanai (balcony) that almost hangs over the beach. See the ponds below where the turtle and the eels want to come and feed. Let the sounds of the sea make you sleep after a day of sightseeing or relaxation. Both the bedroom and living room face the sea, where dolphins can be seen all year round and whales in season.

King-size bed in the bedroom.
Queens was a sofa bed in the living room.
Tastefully remodeled kitchen and bathroom with shower over bathtub.
Two lanai-high bistros are on the lanai.

Hale Kona Kai is an intimate, absolute oceanfront complex of 39 one-bedroom condos. Located on the outskirts of Kona City, it is off the main road providing calm, ocean-view relaxation from every module. Located just south of Royal Kona Resort, excellent dining at Huggo's or Don Beachcomber's is a two-minute walk away and other restaurants are just a fun stroll away. The white sand of Honl's Beach is less than a quarter-mile south and the Kona Farmer's Market half a mile north.

The complex offers an elevator that provides convenient access for all. On the ocean side, you'll find a heated saltwater swimming pool and a grill on the south end of the complex. Each floor has coin-operated washers and dryers for your use. Each condo does not have its own washer/dryer.

Each unit includes designated parking, safe WIFI, & cable TV. Both units, like Lanais, are non-smoking and Hale Kona Kai is non-smoking.

Beautiful view, central location. Apartment well furnished. Unfortunately, carpet everwhere locks in humidity and allergens despite AC, making nights rather uncomfortable.

Room we had was dated, but had everything we needed for our stay (large kitchen with plenty of pots and dishes). They even had toys for the beach which we did use. The complex was experiencing problems with the air conditioner. They provided a small unit for the bedroom which kept it cool. Tiana was very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic week away

Staying here was great for the location. The unit is literally above the ocean, providing a gorgeous sunset view and the best natural white noise to sleep with. Very close, but not directly in the heart of the action of town. Easy walking around to shopping, dining, kayaking and snorkelling. If we get back to the area, we would likely stay in the same building.

The condo location was very good. We have stayed in the complex numerous times for that reason. The unit itself was very dated and needs a complete remodel and update. The guests that were in the unit above us were very loud and stomping on the floor at all hours that made our time in the unit very uncomfortable.

Just do it!

In real estate it's all about location. You are right above the ocean and crashing waves. So close to main drag in Kona. I would return without hesitation. To top it off got to see Henry Kapono unexpectedly play next door. Mahalo

Could not get a better location and view of the price

The place is clean and the furniture is comfortable. The view is fantastic and you can walk all of Kona from this location with no problem. Given the close location to all the bars and shops it is still a very quiet place where the only noise you will hear is the waves of the ocean. Everything was working when we were there including the AC unit. If you are planning on cooking a lot you may want to bring some spices from home but they have all the pots, pans, plates you would need for cooking. It was a little musty smelling but I think that is a given as it is right on the water. There is a privacy screen front door you can keep open and if you leave the slider open it clears out well. This is what all the neighbors do as well. There is no fan I’m the bathroom so i would recommend bringing some poop-pourei and you can move one of the fans near the bathroom to clear out any lingering smell or dampness from taking a shower. Laundry and trash are on the same level next to the stairs and elevator which is convenient. The pool was very nice and was almost never busy. You will see a lot of wildlife in the lava rocks below and just out front your view. I would definitely stay here again and think this place would be a win for anyone. Thumbs up on this place.

Awesome location!

The crashing sound of the waves! Wow you can't be any closer - just a short walk to downtown to access excellent food, farmer's market, a great walk along the water. Easy access to snorkeling beaches. Nice to have beach towels, chairs. Visiting the pool overlooking the water is refreshing.

Loved it for the most part. Would have loved having a blender for smoothies and frapes. It was wonderful hearing the waves but couldn;t have the doors/windows open because we had to close them so the air conditioners would have worked.

Overall happy with condo but smelled musty. A/C system was not working effectively given how humid it was. Carpet into bedroom was wet from humidity or system not working properly. System outdated. Condo is RIGHT on the ocean, location is amazing! Interior is tired but adequate — “air conditioning” means two noisy portable units for condo as regular A/C seems to be permanently out of order. Linens, bedding and bed are well-lived in. Nice pool area right on the ocean, and very close by to lots of great restaurant and bar options.
