My stay at The August Inn was overall okay, but I left feeling uncomfortable because of the communication we received during our visit.
I casually mentioned to my partner that it seemed like no one else was there since there were no cars outside. Later, I received a text explaining that other guests were on the property and that many Uber, so it can appear empty. The message also reminded us that the reservation was for two registered guests, noting this is usually covered at check in but was sent via text because we arrived late.
Although polite in wording, the message felt passive aggressive. It directly referenced something I had said privately inside the property, which was unsettling and made us feel like our conversations were being monitored. My comment was simply an observation, and I take accountability if it was incorrect.
A friend had come inside to drop off belongings before we went out and was not staying overnight. Receiving the reminder at 10:33 PM after we had already left felt unnecessary.
When we returned, we felt uncomfortable for the rest of our stay, as if we might be reprimanded again. While nothing major went wrong, the tone and timing affected our experience enough that I would not return.
