Welcome to Chestnut Lodge at Toppesfield Hall — a wonderful, woodland retreat designed for slowing the pace and enjoying time together in the countryside.

Set within a private area of woodland and surrounded by open fields, your stay begins the moment you arrive. Step onto your veranda, sink into your private hot tub, light the fire pit, or wander through the trees to enjoy everything available on site.

Life at Toppesfield Hall is about more than just your lodge. Guests can enjoy a woodland sauna experience with cold drench shower and relaxation deck (available to book), a tennis and games court, indoor games room, bike hire, and relaxation treatments — all set within open countryside with walks directly from your door.

Dogs are warmly welcomed, and each lodge has a fully enclosed garden (approx. 1.2m fencing), so everyone can relax safely.

Chestnut Lodge is thoughtfully positioned within a small expanse of woodland, designed to bring the outside in while maintaining comfort and privacy. Large French doors open onto your private garden, creating a calm, easy indoor-outdoor flow throughout your stay.

Whether you’re gathering as a family, staying with friends, or escaping for a few slower days, this is a place where mornings begin quietly, afternoons stretch out in the fresh air, and evenings are best spent around the fire pit or in the hot tub under open skies.

Although wonderfully tucked away, the village of Toppesfield is just an 8-minute walk away, offering a dog-friendly pub, village shop, post office and park.

Positioned on the Essex/Suffolk border, Toppesfield Hall is perfectly placed for exploring nearby countryside villages — though many guests choose to stay onsite and enjoy everything around them.

Toppesfield Hall consists of five woodland lodges and a cottage, each with its own private hot tub and enclosed garden.

Perfect for individual stays, couples, families or groups of friends looking to spend time together while still enjoying their own space.


Layout

Chestnut Lodge is arranged across a single level with an open-plan living space at its heart.

The lounge, kitchen and dining area sit together in one bright, sociable space, with large French doors opening directly onto the veranda and garden beyond.

The two bedrooms are set off the main living area, offering a practical and comfortable layout for families or small groups.

A separate bathroom is positioned conveniently to serve both bedrooms.

Toppesfield Hall is set in the countryside, and our guinea fowl and other local wildlife add a charming touch to your stay. Please note: they may be vocal at times including night-times.


Local Area

As you get closer to the Essex/Suffolk Border, you will be sure to notice a greener outlook.

Driving through Toppesfield Village you will see our wonderful pub with its spacious outdoor garden for children to play and dogs to roam. You will also pass St Margaret’s Church, our community shop and post office.

This village is full of natural beauty and much character too. There is a park for the children and the village green provides a safe haven for family picnics and games.

Toppesfield Village can be accessed via a short 8 min stroll across the grassed footpath from Toppesfield Hall or from the main country road.

No Parking next to lodges- There is dedicated parking available just a short walk from the Lodges (within 150 yards).
There is a step up to the lodge.
Unfortunately due to the step and parking; we do not advertise our lodges as accessible.
