Kangaroo House
Kangaroo House offers a rare way to experience Halls Gap—where the landscape isn’t something you drive to, it begins right at your back door. Walking trails to Clematis Falls, Venus Baths, Chatauqua Peak and Bullaces Glen all start just beyond the property, making it easy to head out and explore without needing to plan your day around access points.
At the same time, everything else is close by. Wander down to the nearby oval to watch kangaroos grazing, or stroll into the centre of town for cafés, restaurants and shops. It’s a balance that’s hard to find—complete immersion in nature, with the convenience of Halls Gap still within easy reach.
With four bedrooms, two bathrooms and generous living spaces, the home is designed for families and groups to settle in comfortably. A large, well-equipped kitchen, multiple living areas, double glazing and air-conditioning in every room make it an easy place to return to after a day outdoors.
The Space:
Kangaroo House offers a rare way to experience the Grampians—where the landscape begins right at your back door.
With four bedrooms, two bathrooms and space to spread out, it’s a comfortable and well-positioned base for families and groups exploring the region.
Designed for shared stays that feel easy, spacious and deeply connected to the outdoors, Kangaroo House offers four bedrooms and two bathrooms, comfortably accommodating families and groups and giving everyone room to spread out without feeling on top of each other. The layout works well for multiple couples, families travelling together, or extended stays where space and flexibility matter.
Each bedroom is fitted with its own split system air conditioning, allowing everyone to set their own comfort, while double glazing throughout keeps the home quiet, warm in winter and cool in summer.
Mornings here tend to start outside. Step out the patio doors and literally into the Grampians National Park—the transition is immediate. Wildlife moves through regularly, birdlife fills the air, and the mountains are right there, not just in view but within reach.
For families with kids, this is where the stay really comes to life. The walks are close, accessible and varied—short enough to keep things easy, but with enough to explore that the sense of discovery never fades. Rock pools, creeks, bush tracks and open space mean there’s always something new just beyond the door, and the wonder of it all feels very real.
From here, the rhythm of the day opens up. You can head straight onto the trails, wander down to the nearby oval where kangaroos are often grazing, or take an easy walk into town for coffee, breakfast or a relaxed lunch.
The living area is open and relaxed, designed for coming back together after time outdoors. It’s where stories from the day are shared, plans are loosely made, and everyone naturally reconnects.
At the centre of the home, the kitchen is set up with groups in mind. A wide range of cookware, crockery and appliances makes shared meals simple—whether it’s breakfast before a walk, lunch in between outings, or dinner together at the end of the day. A large fridge, dishwasher, cooktop, oven and microwave mean you can cater comfortably for both small and larger groups.
As the day winds down, the home opens back out to the patio and backyard. The connection to the national park becomes the focus again—less about what you did that day, and more about where you are.
It’s not about staying near the Grampians—it’s about living within them.

A DAY AT KANGAROO HOUSE
Mornings begin with the outdoors already waiting. Step out the patio doors and literally into the Grampians National Park—the air is fresh, birdlife is constant, and kangaroos are often nearby, moving quietly through the landscape.
Some mornings call for movement—a walk to Venus Baths, Bullaces Glen or Clematis Falls in season, or a climb towards Chatauqua Peak and beyond. Other mornings are slower. A wander down to the nearby oval, coffee in hand, watching kangaroos grazing as the town gently comes to life.
From there, the day can go either way. Head deeper into the ranges, or stroll into the centre of Halls Gap for breakfast, a browse through the shops, or an easy lunch before returning to your own space on the edge of the national park.
Afternoons roll into evenings without much effort. The light shifts across the mountains, the pace drops again, and everyone finds their place—inside or out. Meals come together, conversations stretch, and the connection to the landscape remains constant.
By the end of the day, you’ve likely experienced more of the Grampians—not because you went further, but because you started right where it begins.
You’re not planning around it—you’re already in it.

The Neighborhood:
Kangaroo House sits in a quiet pocket of Halls Gap where the landscape feels close, open and constantly changing.
Step out the patio doors and literally into the Grampians National Park, or take a short walk in the other direction to the nearby oval—an open space where kangaroos regularly graze and the pace of the day naturally slows. It’s the kind of place where kids can run, explore and just be outside, while the mountains sit all around you.
From the house, you can walk straight onto some of the region’s most iconic tracks, including Venus Baths, Clematis Falls (seasonal), Chatauqua Peak and Bullaces Glen. These are the kinds of walks that don’t require planning—they’re simply there, ready when you are.
At the same time, the centre of Halls Gap is within easy reach. Cafés, bakeries, restaurants and local shops are all close enough for a relaxed stroll, making it easy to mix outdoor adventure with slower, more social moments.
A short drive opens up even more of the region, including Lake Bellfield for picnics and views, and the wineries of Pomonal—Pomonal Estate, Fallen Giants and Black & Ginger Wine Shed—all within easy reach.
It’s a location that gives you both—
space to disconnect, and everything you need close by.
Getting Around:
One of the unique things about Kangaroo House is how much you can do without needing to get in the car.
Step out the patio doors and you’re already in the Grampians National Park, with walking tracks to waterfalls, lookouts and bushland right at your doorstep. You can also walk to the nearby oval or into the centre of Halls Gap for cafés, restaurants and shops.
For exploring further afield—lookouts, wineries, or more remote parts of the Grampians—a car is recommended.
Other Things to Note:
• This is a comfortable and spacious base designed for group stays and connection to the outdoors
• The property is dog-friendly, though not fenced
• Wildlife is common, particularly given the direct access to the national park
• Fire restrictions may apply during warmer months
• We are locals and happy to provide recommendations for walks, dining and experiences
• Travelling with a larger group? Kangaroo House sits alongside Kookaburra Retreat, and both properties can be booked together—ideal for extended families, multiple groups or event stays where you want to be close, while still having your own space
Interaction with Guests:
