The Space:
THE SPACE:
Welcome to the historic Applegate House built in 1887. This stately Victorian home was built by Dr. Joseph W. Applegate to serve as his residence while he oversaw the operations of the Clarendon Hotel and the majestic natural Spring which attracted visitors to the Green Cove Springs area. It is located in center of the Historic Downtown District, walkable to restaurants, local shops, the Clay Theatre wedding venue, and the river-front Spring Park.
Nestled along the serene shore of the St. Johns River, this charming location exudes an air of tranquility and warmth. Enjoy the soft river breezes from the second floor screened in balcony, the front porch swing or in the gazebo. A cozy atmosphere permeates every corner of this historic home with several locations to curl up with a book or enjoy the fresh air with your morning coffee.
This spacious five bedroom, five bath home accommodates 11 Guests. The well appointed bedrooms all have their own en suite bathroom, allowing for a large family or group of friends to spread out and enjoy every nook of this large, well-cared for home.
It is furnished with period antiques and modern amenities to include updated bathrooms. The living room and dining room area perfect for gathering to enjoy some board games or just some good ole fashioned conversation.
This location provides the perfect overnight accommodation space for your wedding party, especially if you plan to utilize the Clay Theater for your venue!
THE PROXIMITY:
In the very middle of everything Green Cove Springs has to offer, you simply cannot choose a better location than The Applegate House! Restaurants, shops, the community spring pool, buzzing community park, and much more are just outside the door! It is a one minute walk to the Clay theater to attend weddings and special events with ease - For brides, grooms and wedding attendees, it is the perfect get-ready space for your group! ! Additionally, just one block from local hotspot Spring Park Coffee makes for the perfect morning stroll around the area. This is the ideal location to stay when attending an event at the Clay County Fairgrounds or looking to be near St. Johns River for boating and other water sports. Black Creek bike trail is a short distance away and is a lot of fun! There is a spot to launch kayaks right at the end of the street. This home is less than 30 mins from Trout Creek. Grocery stores and convenience stores are also in close proximity. A bit further you can take a trip to World Golf Village for the golf enthusiasts.
ATTRACTIONS:
This gorgeous home itself is an attraction! Known as the Applegate House, it has been nationally recognized as a historic site. Most of the local hot spots are within a 1-25 minute drive. The home over looks Spring Park which includes a large kids jungle gym area, community natural spring pool, babbling waterfall and brook, large gazebo and fishing dock, all bordering the beautiful St. Johns River. The Clay County fairgrounds are a short distance away, and the quaint commercial downtown district is filled with unique boutiques, shops, wine bars and more to discover! *(Daily entry fees apply for access to the pool. The City Pool is closed for the season and will reopen on May 2, 2025.) The splash pad is open and free to the public.
AMENITIES:
The house includes: Pack n Play, baby gate, board games, a fully loaded kitchen, pillows, linens and towels, 2 sets of washer/dryer, irons, ironing boards, luggage racks, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, off street parking, propane BBQ, screened gazebo and porch, porch swing, electric fireplaces and smart TVs in every room (log into your favorite streaming app to pick up right where you left off), and much more.
THE LAYOUT
This home has a 2 story layout. There are 2 bedrooms on the 1st floor nearby the living, dining and kitchen areas.
>ROOM 1: 1 Queen size bed with full ensuite with walk in shower
>ROOM 2: 1 Queen + 1 Twin size bed with full ensuite with walk in shower
>ROOM 3: 1 Queen size bed with full ensuite with shower/tub combo
>ROOM 4: 1 King size bed with full ensuite with walk in shower
>ROOM 5: 1 King size bed with full ensuite with walk in shower and separate jacuzzi tub
>FULL GUEST BATH: In hall through laundry room with walk in shower
OPEN LIVING: The kitchen is situated adjacent to the living and dining area so everyone can be together whether lounging, dining or cooking! We outfit the kitchen with one roll of paper towels, a few starter trash bags, cleaning supplies, and dishwasher pods for your first couple of days.
LAUNDRY: We offer two sets of washers and dryers off of the dining room and another off of the kitchen. We provide starter laundry pods + dryer sheets, iron and ironing board and some cleaning supplies for your convenience.
PARKING: There is plenty of off street parking in our driveway for 3-4 cars. Street parking is prohibited. Do not park on the grass.
SECURITY DEPOSIT: In lieu of a traditional security deposit charge or authorization hold for a large sum, we will instead charge a one-time non-refundable incidentals fee to your stay of $199. This fee acts as insurance for minor damages and covers you up to a max of $2000 of damage. *IMPORTANT: Guests must report to us any damage that has taken place during their stay before checkout, otherwise the incidental fee coverage is null and void. In this case, we reserve the right to charge the full amount of repairing or replacing the damaged items to you. Your insurance coverage amount ($500, $1000, $1500, etc) is not the max that you are responsible for. If damages exist beyond your coverage amount we will document this with photos and professional estimates of repair, and bill you for the repairs or replacements.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the first and second floors and all outdoor spaces. The third floor is not included in the rental. The garage is also not accessible to guests.
No smoking on porches or in the gazebo.
The Neighborhood:
The neighborhood is cozy and quaint! Enjoy a scenic walk around with your group. This is a primarily residential neighborhood and has several shops and a public park all in walking distance!
Getting Around:
There are several locations and amenities within walking distance, but we recommend renting a car for your stay.
Other Things to Note:
WEEKLY SERVICES: There are various service providers that visit and maintain the exterior of the property on a weekly basis and the days they visit vary from week to week. These services include lawn care, exterior pest control, trash handling and where applicable, pool and spa cleaners. Some properties may have other specialty service providers. If you see them outside, they are just on site to do their job and keep the home in its best condition for the enjoyment of our guests.
Rental Agreement: A quick virtual rental agreement is requiredâsimple and guest-friendly!
Please remember that you're staying in a historical home, not a hotel. Please treat the space with respect. If any problems arise, we will do our best to take action ASAP, but there is no one living on site 24/7.
The 3rd floor and garage are not included in the rental.
Pets are not allowed at this home.
There are three exterior cameras that monitor the front yard, driveway and front porch for security.
Parties are strictly prohibited. Penalties will be enforced.
NO smoking is allowed in the house. Any evidence of smoking will result in $500 fine.
Minimum age to book is 25 years old.
LOST AND FOUND ITEMS: We charge a $50 minimum to ship forgotten items, which must be paid in advance. For heavier items, we ask that you pre-pay the $50 and we will acquire any additional shipping cost and bill this to you accordingly + 25% service fee.
Interaction with Guests:
I am here for you during your stay, but our level of interaction is up to you. I'm only a phone call/message away. You will be able to self check in upon arrival.
