Welcome to Highwood House

Welcome to our updated Grand Lake mountain retreat, where panoramic, unobstructed lake and mountain views meet a comfortable, modern mountain-cabin feel.

We bought Highwood House as a family retreat and have thoughtfully remodeled and furnished it from top to bottom. The result is a warm, inviting home that combines the character of a Colorado mountain cabin with the comforts you want after a day of exploring Rocky Mountain National Park, hiking, boating, skiing, or simply relaxing in Grand Lake.

The house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious loft, and a large deck with incredible views. It's designed to be equally comfortable for families, friends, or couples traveling together.

The Great Room

The heart of the house is an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area with plenty of room to gather.

The fully stocked kitchen has everything you'll need to prepare a meal at home, while the generous farmhouse dining table seats up to eight comfortably with the leaf installed.

After a day outside, settle into the brand-new Crate & Barrel sofa, play a game, read a book, or watch a movie on the 50" LED TV. A Blu-ray/DVD player and cable TV are also available.

Music lovers will appreciate the Sonos system, with stereo speakers that let you enjoy your own music throughout the house using Spotify or internet radio.

Two Ensuite Bedrooms

Highwood House has two comfortable ensuite bedrooms, each with:

The two ensuite bedrooms make the house particularly comfortable for two couples or families traveling with grandparents or friends.

The Loft

Upstairs, a spacious 12' x 16' loft provides a separate sleeping and hangout space.

The loft has two twin beds, a comfortable chair for reading, and a table that's perfect for games, puzzles, or a quiet afternoon. For families with younger children, we also provide bed rails for both twin beds.

The Deck & Views

One of our favorite features of Highwood House is the 400+ square-foot deck, surrounded by aspen trees and overlooking the lake and mountains.

Enjoy dinner at the six-person outdoor dining table, fire up the BBQ grill, or pull up an Adirondack chair and enjoy your morning coffee while taking in the panoramic, unobstructed views.

The house isn't directly on the lake, but its elevated setting gives you a wonderful perspective over the water and surrounding mountains.

Family-Friendly

Highwood House was designed with families in mind. In addition to the loft's twin beds and optional bed rails, we provide:

Rustling aspens and cozy vibes

This cabin was perfect for our family of five. The updates are clean and modern but preserved the beautiful rustic vibe. Views are excellent! And cabin had all you would need for cooking, dining, and entertainment. Communication and check in process was so simple. We hope to stay again. And see our bear friend that visited twice!

Your cabin has a very convenient location near the town of Grand Lake, CO. The large deck with a pretty view made it a perfect gathering spot for our small group. The expandable dinner table made it possible for our group of 12 to eat together. As it is an usually hot Summer at 8,000 feet having AC was a major bonus! The bedrooms were nice and comfortable. Thank you for opening up your cabin to us.

Location! Location! Location!

The house is in the perfect location. only 2 miles to downtown Grand lake and within 10 minutes you're in Rocky mountain national Park. the house sits high atop a hill overlooking Shadow mountain reservoir and in the background Grand lake. Also magnificent mountains in the background. The view I'm talking about is visible from the Adirondack chairs off of the back deck. The view from the back deck is somewhat obscured by happy dancing Aspen trees but who can get mad at those beauties?! We truly enjoyed our stay. Parker the owner is just magnificent and very helpful and very kind as is his wife Beth. We highly recommend this place.

Wonderful!!

First time in Colorado and this home did not disappoint! Thank goodness we found it after the original VRBO rental had issues and we had to find another home last minute! Parker was so gracious to help us. The view from the back porch of the lake and mountains are Amazing! We had a great view of the New Year’s Eve fireworks also. (My daughter’s boyfriend proposed during the firework show!) The quaint town of Grand Lake is literally just up the road for dining and shopping. We enjoyed the large dining room table where we played games nearly every evening. Let me just say if you’re looking for a great place to stay….this should be your place. Lots of family fun!! Cabin was nice for price. Since there is no air Some windows didn’t work or have screens. Those with screens were not in good shape letting mosquitoes in. We purchased fans. Could use a new sofa for sure. Not being from the area we weren’t aware that you have to drive to do anything. The private road from the highway was TERRIBLE. No way around all the potholes. There were a few items to be addressed directly with the owner but especially for the price it was a good place to stay

So this was a beautiful home and our two girls loved having the loft area to themselves but right away, my husband & I were somewhat disappointed by what had been described as "unobstructed" views from the porch. I am actually quite amazed by the many reviews talking about the "amazing" views b/c the amazing view is only if you go sit on the two chairs in the grass down from the deck and you want to get eaten up by bugs in the process. Many trees obstruct the view from the deck and views would be amazing if some of them were eliminated. Other issue is that there is no a/c, which I guess is normal for the area but we weren't aware. This actually wouldn't have been a big deal at all if you were able to open all the windows but that isn't possible b/c many of the windows either have no screen at all or the screens have huge holes in them, allowing bugs in. The house can get stuffy and we love having the windows open but couldn't, especially once evening came. Also, once night came, the bugs surrounding the two doors was horrendous...you basically couldn't go out b/c they were swarming the doors as there are no curtains on them to block lights from inside. Otherwise, the place was nicely decorated, supply was good and Parker was great to work with! My suggestions, put screens on ALL windows that open and fix the screens you currently have and put curtains/blinds on two doors to make it easier to go in & out at night. Might also be helpful to eliminate trees at least on the left side of back porch (closer to 2 chairs), open it up to more of the view and truly make it unobstructed views. Will also let people know that the 2 bathrooms are in the 2 bedrooms which is fine but a little odd as our two girls would either have to come into our bedroom or their brothers room at night if they needed to use the restroom. The house was beautifully done inside and it honestly seemed to me that owners were working to renovate but maybe only had the inside done as the outside still needed work. Add/fix screens, get some curtains on the two doors and open up the view and this place would be 5++ stars! lol :) We still had a nice stay though.

Loved our stay at this cabin. It was our 9th anniversary and we wanted a quiet place with privacy but close enough to town to enjoy a nice cup of coffee with Mountain Views . I give it a 5 star. Only thing I’d recommend the owners look at is the deck. It needs to be replaced soon and I’m sure it’s on their radar

Beautiful view, close to town and secluded feel

We simply LOVED this home. The location was so close to the activities of Grand Lake and several fishing spots we wanted to see. Very close to RMNP. The house itself is so well done for functional use. Our little one loved the loft bedroom. We ended up having family game nights there a few times. Our oldest had his own room with bathroom so he was thrilled. The living room was perfectly comfy for family movie nights. The kitchen was so easy to use. They had all the necessities and honestly we ended up cooking 95 percent of our meals in the cabin. We never once felt like the four of us were squeezed or on top of each other and after all day on the lake that was so wonderful. Parker was so easy to contact and gave us great tips on local markets, fishing spots and even a restaurant or two. I can honestly say that we WOULD come back to this house we enjoyed it that much. So yea if you want close to town but a little wilderness and GORGEOUS views with a comfy place this is the one for you. Also, the decor is amazing like a Nelson Saucer Bubble Pendant! So yea this house is definitely one to snatch up!

Good communication with property owner. Easy check-in and check-out procedures. Surfaces, linens, etc clean and everything well-kept. The washer/dryer was out of order, but we knew ahead of time so we could plan accordingly. Lovely property with even lovelier views. We enjoyed the snowy landscape and would absolutely return in any season!

The property is very comfortable and relaxing. The morning sunrise is incredible over the mountains and lake. Downtown Grand Lake is minutes away if you plan to eat out. Our stay was great! I would highly recommend staying here to anyone.

Fantastic House, Fantastic Experience

This rental exceeded our expectations. The owner, Parker, was very responsive to a couple of inquires we had during our stay. The cabin was very clean and well appointed. The attention to detail was impressive, from the very comfortable beds/bedding, to the extra USB and 110 volt outlets on the night stands next to the beds. The cabin has excellent views of Mount Baldy and Shadow Mountain Lake from the deck and yard, and is situated in a grove of aspen trees, which in late September, provided spectacular fall colors all around. With this cabin you are close enough to get to town in a couple of minutes, but in a heavily treed area which gives you the feeling of being deep in the woods. My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much and will be back !
