Coast Is Clear - Getaway

If a luxury boutique hotel were to collide with a private home - this would be it! Right in the center of town with easy access to absolutely everything Galveston has to offer - AND the host family has thought of everything to make your stay phenomenally comfortable and inviting. Selecting the furniture and furnishings to meet the period of the home while being comfortable to guests was a top priority to these owners. From mattresses to appliances, every detail specifically considered with the guest in mind.

After crossing the porch set with a porch swing and rocking chairs, you’ll step inside to find gorgeous everything – from floors to furniture to window treatments, comfort and style abound. The living room area to your left provides comfortable seating which invites you to sit, relax, have great conversation – and modern conveniences as well – with a smart TV to watch whichever streaming services you subscribe to (bring your usernames & passwords to pick up where you left off at home!) To the right you’ll find the more formal of the 2 dining areas – complete with period pocket doors (though they’re finicky as you can imagine from the sheer age of the property so we would ask that while you enjoy their beauty, you take great care if using them and adults only should be opening/closing them, please). A round glass-topped table with seating for 8 is a perfect spot for dinner or a card game. You’ll find a second dining option just down the hall – a bit more casual is outside the magnificent kitchen, and there’s a third amazing option outside on the deck for al fresco dining. Choices choices choices! Speaking of the kitchen – OH MY! This is where those modern conveniences collide – absolutely everything you could want or wish for in a kitchen – here it is! Also on this level you’ll find a sweet bunk room for kiddos, or kids at heart! Please be mindful that there are doors that lead out of the property on this level – so please have conversations with them about your expectations and rules about letting their adults know where they are at all times! Also on this level you will find a full bath, and the laundry facilities that allow you to pack light or stay longer.

Up the beautiful staircase you’ll find three spacious bedrooms and a wonderful full bath. One bedroom features a king sized bed, lovely desk area if you need to catch up on work while traveling, and a comfy chair for thinking, journaling or reading. This room also has a television. The second bedroom has a queen bed, a lovely desk/vanity and chair for laptopping, and a “sitting chair”. The third bedroom has two twin beds decked out in gorgeous period toppers. Each room has it’s own personality – and throughout the home you will find period pieces reminiscent of the period in which the home was built – days gone by. It’s like a fancy B & B except you get the whole place to yourself!

Outside – we made mention already of the back deck dining option of a huge picnic area with bench seating and umbrellas to shade you. There’s also a decorative firepit area with adirondack chairs, and a gas grill as well.

Due to the age of the home and the delicate plumbing that results from that, the water pressure in the upstairs tub/shower combination can be temperamental. If you're looking for a quick shower, the downstairs shower is the better choice. If looking for a longer take-your-time kind of shower, upstairs is great! There are also 2 dehumidifiers - one upstairs and one downstairs. They have an automatic shut off feature when the "bucket" is full. Please do not think we are asking you to empty these - just letting you know that they are there. Because the home was built over 100 years ago and the owners wish to preserve the gorgeous wood floors - these are in place because of the extreme humidity in a coastal community. There are fans in the home as prior guests requested them who enjoy sleeping with a fan directly on them - please feel free to use these and place them where they make YOU most comfortable.

This house is fido-friendly. Up to 2 small dogs may join their humans when following the simple things we request – please keep the dog(s) kenneled (bring your kennels with you, please) when you are out of the home, please don’t allow them on the furniture, and clean up after them in the yard. We will ask that you send photos of the dogs prior to accepting them and there is a $75 non refundable per dog fee. Only dogs, though, sorry no other animals allowed, and a maximum of 2 with a combined maximum weight of 100 pounds. We don’t allow any animal or breed identified as dangerous or vicious, please see our rules if you have any questions about breed restrictions or just ask us. We recommend that you carry your pooch’s vaccine records with you also – just in case anything were to happen or if you need emergency veterinary treatment while traveling. Please check the City’s website regarding leash laws and beaches that are dog friendly and if you happen to take your dog(s) to the beach, please rinse ‘em off and dry ‘em before bringing them back into the house, too. Thanks!

After making your reservation you will receive a link to complete our renters agreement. The only information we request differently than the booking platforms (VRBO/AirBnB) is your personal email address, the names and ages of each person who will be in the property during your stay, and your driver’s license information as well as an emergency contact should we need to reach someone on your behalf. Thank you for completing this in a timely manner so that we may send you the check-in instructions for the property you have reserved.

Galveston is a barrier island in Texas located on the Gulf of Mexico. From time to time we have unexpected rain, thunderstorms, and sometimes we do have tropical storms and hurricanes. From time to time there may be brief interruptions in electricity and WiFi services due to weather. You should consider purchasing trip interruption or cancelation protection through the platforms or another source. We are unable to guarantee sunny days, mosquito free nights and perfect weather, nor do we refund for these possibilities. We issue refunds in the event of mandatory evacuations issued by a governmental agency, or for the property being unavailable due to damages and extended power outages.

For all reservations made directly through our website and through VRBO, there is a $300 security deposit “hold” required. You certainly can purchase trip cancellation/interruption coverage through those platforms as well if you so desire, this is a damage “deposit” hold. This is released once our housekeepers advise that the property has been left in the condition received with no damages occurring during your stay. This is not a charge, but a hold on the credit card on file with which the reservation is made. Should there be damages and they exceed $300 to repair or replace, you will be notified and asked to make arrangements to compensate for those items.

We had a fantastic time! This is a gorgeous historic home, beautifully decorated and well appointed. It was great to be able to walk to the beach and the Strand (12 min each way). A couple restaurants are within walking distance. Overall we loved our stay and will be back!

Lovely and Charming

We loved our stay at Coast Is Clear - Getaway. We had a family Girl’s Trip. There were 6 of us. The home is warm and welcoming. There are tables and a living room for gathering inside but also peaceful bedrooms if you need a break to recharge. The front and back porches are beautiful places. I loved the porch swing on the front porch. The front porch is also a wonderful place for pics. There is a water hose at the front that is wonderful for getting sand off yourself and beach items. We were pleased that was so accessible so we didn’t get extra sand in the house. (We have stayed places where this is not the case.) The house is very close (2 minute drive) to the beach and restaurants on the Seawall. It is far enough away to enjoy the beautiful, peaceful neighborhood.

Graduation weekend 2025

When you walk in, it already feels like a home. It is beautifully decorated home with a cozy feel. So easy to relax on the porch with the rockers and swing, or in the back with a beautiful deck. The house is very cool, the AC and other fans were set up for to be the most comfortable. The plumbing is great. Hot showers all around. We had plenty of room for our family, and for short term guests to have a luncheon after graduation from UTMB Medical School. I highly recommend this gorgeous house! We were close to everything that you could need. Food, groceries, the beach. 5 stars!

Charming old house, great location!

Very lovely 100+ year old home close to the beach and minutes from shopping with great restaurants nearby. Large home with a great backyard for entertaining. Well equipped kitchen and large dining areas. Quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors and street parking was always available right in front of the house. Would definitely stay again. Great value and outstanding communication from the host.

What a wonderful Christmas stay!!

Our family enjoyed an evening the night before Christmas Eve riding the Polar Express at the Galveston Train Museum close to this gorgeous home! We spent the weekend at the home and woke up opening Christmas presents on Christmas Eve under the beautifully decorated Christmas tree and ornaments all over the home with nice touches. Everyone in our family loved staying at this home! We thank you so much!

Great location in a historic neighborhood. Management company was attentive to needs but was short on several items for several member stay of several nights. Furthermore, nearly clogged upper restroom sink and also a fire alarm with batteries removed near kitchen.
