Welcome to the Overlook, hosted by Far Longing Getaways. This spacious and luxurious cabin is the perfect place to escape and enjoy the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley and National Park. The front porch is the perfect place to watch both sunrises and sunsets with a panoramic view of the valley and Front Royal. Enjoy cozy nights by the firepit or inside with our wood-burning stove. This property has everything you need to relax and unwind in nature with all the comforts of home.

Guests will have access to the entire house and outdoor spaces, except for locked off owners closet and storage areas.

This is a new listing of an existing property due to a change in property management. The home itself previously operated as a Guest Favorite with numerous 5-star stays and a 4.93 overall rating. We can provide a word document with all the previous listing reviews upon request. Previous guests consistently praised the view, beauty of the house and location, the plentiful extra touches, and the closeness to the National Park! Whether you are seeking adventure or relaxation, this luxury log home offers the best of both worlds. Elegance meets nature on this private 14-acre property with 4 smart TVs, wood burning stove, 4 beautifully appointed bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a full office, media room, screened-in porch and a gym. Enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine from the large front porch, which overlooks the Blueridge Mountains. The golden sunrises and sunsets are simply magical. The Overlook sits upon 14 acres of pristine wooded land and is less than ten minutes from Shenandoah National Park (the property abuts the Park) and the Appalachian Trail!

The Overlook is less than 10 minutes' drive time from the Skyline Drive North entrance, Skyline Caverns, a public boat launch on the South Fork Shenandoah River, Skyline Outfitters (where you can rent a canoe or kayak) and downtown Front Royal with its excellent restaurants and a local brewery. Shenandoah River State Park and about a dozen wineries are within 20-30 minutes, two vineyards are about five miles away!

Enjoy spectacular views and abundant wildlife - birds, deer, foxes, even bears from the impressive porch that overlooks the valley and three mountain ridge lines. Maybe you will be lucky enough to see Bertram the Bear, a black bear from the park who visits us periodically! The Overlook is gorgeous in all seasons, but in the Spring and Fall the property is magnificent!

Enjoy the screened-in porch in the back and gas grill if you choose to eat meals outside or sit at one of the numerous comfortable seating areas on the front porch, enjoying the propane fire pit table.

High-speed storm-ready Wi-Fi is supplied throughout the house, as is Netflix and Peacock + on the four smart TVs, but you can also connect to your own streaming services if you prefer or watch provided DVDs.

The house has been completely remodeled inside and out and sleeps eight. It includes four themed bedrooms: two king and two queen. The king-size rooms have 55” smart TVs. All bedrooms have luxurious leather seating areas to enjoy the view, a book, and a cup of coffee in the morning. The two upstairs full baths feature beautiful river rock tiled walk-in showers with rain-shower heads and hand-held shower wands.

The renovated and stocked kitchen has almost everything you could wish for including a gas stove, dishwasher, an air fryer, and a coffee bar with a Keurig, a drip coffee pot, and a French Press. 

The Overlook has a library and private office. A huge desk with ergonomic chair overlooks the valley and we provide a dual monitor with attached HDMI cable, which you can attach to your computer, a printer, and a shredder. The bookcase is full of varied reading material you can cozy up and read on the buttery, leather sofa.

Enjoy the wood burning stove in the family room while having a glass of wine or watching a movie on the 65” smart TV. Please NOTE:  you must use the appropriate seasoned hardwood. Unlimited hardwood is provided daily for a small fee.
 
Finally, the Overlook has a media/game room and a workout area in the basement. The workout area has free-weights, a yoga mat, and a SOLE Elliptical. Another full bathroom is conveniently located on this level. The elevated platform in the media/game room allows for ample viewing of the 70” smart TV. Dozens of DVDs and a DVD player are also provided. There is a wet bar in the basement, with a mini-fridge, and a bookshelf full of games and puzzles, and foosball table that you can play in the game area.

This is a dog-friendly rental, with extra linens we kindly ask you to put on all the leather furniture if you need your four-legged friend on the couch with you (not in bed, please). A non-refundable pet fee of $75 per dog per stay is required for up to two dogs (up to 40 lbs. each). Your dog must be house trained with up-to-date flea and tick medication. Important, make sure to go outside with your dog when you let them out as the property is not fenced in, and watch for wildlife, particularly Bertram the bear.

There is absolutely no smoking of any kind, including vaping, inside or directly near the house. Smoking is not allowed on either of the porches. An outdoor ashtray is provided at the bottom of the driveway for your use. Please be mindful you are staying in a log house and near almost 200,000 acres of national park!

The house is on a steep paved hill and driveway on the side of the mountain. Drive slowly because deer may run in front of you! There are ample parking spaces available at The Overlook at the bottom of the driveway, in front of the garage, and in the two-car garage (where there is also a beer refrigerator for your use!). Street parking is absolutely prohibited.

Please note: 4WD or AWD is REQUIRED and NECESSARY to access the property during inclement weather, specifically November to April. Other things to note The Overlook offers a military discount to all service members. Owners, who are a retired US Marine and a Soldier, will ask to see your ID when you are making your reservation for an additional 15% off your stay. If you are a repeat guest, let us know! We will provide you a 10% discount off your stay.

We are in the mountains and surrounded by lovely nature. This does include a black bear that frequents the area, so please be careful with leaving food outdoors and ensure that you secure your trash.

Our driveway is also very steep and is not drivable in icy weather without four wheel drive, so please be cautious.
