This corner of South West Scotland is truly beautiful from the Solway Coast to the lush inland forests and hills. There are many interesting visitor attractions within a stones throw of Woodpecker Lodge. Enjoy a day at Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400-acre wild reserve, just a few miles along the coast. Throughout the region there is supreme mountain biking, challenging hill walks and some of the darkest skies in the world, not to mention over 200 miles of stunning and dramatic coastline with secluded little bays and sandy beaches. The Royal Burgh town of Dumfries is a short drive away where there are many shops, pubs and restaurants, or the smaller market town of Castle Douglas, known as the Food Town where there are an excellent selection of foodie shops as well as some delightful little niche shops.
