East Wall is a small community located just off the coast at Dublin port. It is a quiet and mature residential area just minutes from the IFSC, East Point Business Park. Beyond East Point Business Park is Clontarf, and home to Bull Island. Towards the IFSC, there are a host of restaurants and amenities, including the 3 Arena showcasing an abundance of music concerts and events throughout the year.
Close by, within the IFSC, employers such as A&L Goodbody, PWC and AIG have provided strong employment opportunities in this region. The area is also home to third level educator NCI (National College of Ireland).
The combination of both strong employment and education opportunities provides huge demand for young professionals and those wishing to undertake third level education to reside in this area.
There are excellent transport links running through and it is only minutes away from the Port tunnel and Connolly station and less than 15 minutes from Dublin airport.
History & Culture
In the eighteenth century, most of the area that made up East and North Wall was under the Irish Sea. During the 1700s, city engineers built large walls, at North and East Wall and in the process, reclaimed large parcels of land which today form part of the heart of inner-city Dublin.
The North Inner City is one of Dublinâs oldest addresses, and while it is hard to put a definition on the location of an ever-growing city, the original North Inner city comprises land just north of the River Liffey. Today, they include the district of Dublin 1, the employment hub that is the IFSC. The area is without a doubt home to most of Dublinâs historical locations and includes many historical locations such as Parnell Square.
Dine & Drink
Da Mimmo is a small family-run Italian restaurant and considered one of the best pizza places in the city so its definitely worth the trip.
The Sweet Spot is a cute coffee shop that strives for perfection with locally sourced ingredients for the best breakfast and brunch on the North Side. The hip East Road Neighbourhood café comes highly rated for coffee, brunch and desserts.
For coffee lovers, Insomnia is also at the top end of Church Road and a Starbucks around the corner on East Wall Road.
Other lunch options are clustered around the docks, catering for the abundance of office workers in the area.
Shop
There is a small village centre on Church Road, with a number of convenience stores, a pharmacy, a butcher, and a health food store.
OâConnell Street and Henry Street are only is a short stroll away and home to Irelandâs best stores.
Getting Around:
The DART is Dublinâs electric train system. It runs along the coast from Malahide and Howth in the north to Greystones in the south. On the way, it travels through the heart of Dublin passing above the congestion and traffic jams of the city centre. At times, the passenger windows can offer scenic views of Dublin bay. But one of the biggest benefits of using the DART is that bicycles can be taken on board at off-peak travel times.
Trains run every 10 to 20 minutes from Monday to Saturday. Services start at around 6am and end at midnight. National and regional services run from Heuston Station, Connolly Station and Pearse Station in the city centre.
The Luas is the light rail system that connects Dublinâs suburbs to its core. There are two lines: the Green Line runs from Broombridge in the north to Brides Glen in the south and the Red Line runs from Saggart in the west to The Point in the east.
Trams run every five minutes at peak times and every 10-15 minutes at other times. The service runs from around 5:30am to 12:30am Monday to Friday, 06:30am to 12:30am on Saturdays and 07:00am to 23:00pm on Sundays and public holidays. However, the last trams to certain stations are earlier, but during the festive season, they usually run later. Itâs worth checking the timetables or real-time arrivals available through the app.
Dublin Bus connects most parts of the city through a network of over 100 routes. Go-Ahead Ireland, Dublinâs newest bus company, operates more than 20 routes around the city too.
Dublin Bus services usually start at around 5.30am and end at 11.30pm. However, some 24 hour bus routes are being trialed and some Nite Link services are on offer too. You can download the Transport for Ireland app or check out the website to plan a journey or see real-time arrivals at your nearest stop. Itâs also worth noting that Bus Ăireann and a variety of private coach services connect the city with the rest of the country.
The Leap card is the key to all of Dublinâs transport system. Itâs the simplest and most cost-effective way to avail of Dublinâs public transport services and can be used on the train, tram, bus or to rent a Dublin Bike.
Leap card fares are up to 31% cheaper than single-purchase tickets. So if you commute to work each day via public transport, it can save you a lot.
You can top up your card with the official app your phone, in a shop or at a public transport ticket machine. Alternatively, you can register for a monthly or annual ticket.
Other Things to Note:
We kindly request that you read the house rules prior to booking and respect them during your stay. Parties or events of any kind will not be tolerated. Violation of this rule will result in eviction from the property and charges for any damages or additional cleaning required. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
