Riverfront Log Cabin with Treetop Views near Dahlonega- Hot Tub, Firepits, more!
Harris Hyde Away is a recently renovated log cabin perched on a wooded hillside overlooking treetops and the Etowah River in Dawsonville, Georgia. This retreat combines rustic log cabin charm with modern amenities, offering the best of both worlds: seclusion in nature and all the comforts you need for a memorable stay.
With private, significant river frontage, fire pits with complimentary firewood, a wraparound deck, high speed Starlink internet, the Harris Hyde Away was designed for anyone who wants to experience the beauty of North Georgia without giving up modern conveniences.
The Space
Set above the river among tall hickory and dogwood trees, the cabin offers a quiet perch with views of the Etowah below. From the moment you park and step out of your vehicle, you’ll hear the steady sound of the river welcoming you to your stay. From the wraparound deck you can enjoy forest scenery, glimpses of the water, and the calls of nature drifting up from the river. Morning coffee on the deck, afternoon reading under the shade, and dinners at the outdoor picnic table all flow into an easy rhythm of cabin life.
A private trail leads down to the sandy riverbank, where Adirondack chairs rest on a sand embankment, the perfect place to lounge, sip a drink, or simply listen to the current drift past. The shoal at the water’s edge often draws butterflies, adding a quiet sense of magic to summer days by the river. Deer, wild turkeys and other wildlife are common.
A hot tub with river views for use during all seasons to soak and relax.
Inside, the cabin balances rustic character and modern comfort. Vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and log walls give an authentic feel, while large windows brighten the space. A wood stove makes evenings cozy, especially in colder months.
The living room is designed for reading, conversation, and socializing without modern distractions. Books line the window sills, encouraging guests to unplug and enjoy a slower pace. For group entertainment, the second bedroom doubles as a movie lounge, with its sectional sofa and TV. Meanwhile, the loft offers a twin-over-full bunk, a cozy reading chair, views, and TV with retro SNES — a favorite hideaway for kids and teens.
Cabin Features
- Wraparound Deck — Shaded by trees, with plenty of seating and a picnic table for outdoor meals.
- Two Fire Pits — One directly in front of the cabin, the other by the riverbank. Guests often spend their days at the river and their evenings gathered around the large fire pit near the cabin — a highlight of many stays. Extra camp chairs are provided so everyone has a seat around the fire.
- Riverside Picnic Area — Charcoal grill and picnic table at the sandy riverbank, perfect for riverside dining.
- Wood Stove — Adds warmth and atmosphere to the living room. Complimentary firewood is provided, along with a canvas tote and gloves for easy carrying.
- Wi-Fi and Entertainment — Reliable Starlink internet supports remote work, streaming, and calls. Each bedroom has a 65" 4K UHD Smart TV, with the second bedroom offering a sectional for group viewing.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms

- Master Bedroom — King bed with fresh linens and windows overlooking the river, offering peaceful forest and water views.
- Second Bedroom — Queen bed paired with a sectional sofa and large TV, making it a flexible space that works both as a private bedroom and a lounge for family movie nights.
- Loft Bunkroom — Twin-over-full bunk plus a private reading nook with a cozy chair and tree-lined views, offering kids, teens, or solo travelers a semi-private retreat of their own.
The home has two bathrooms:
- Master Bathroom — Features a walk-in shower with a rain head and a separate freestanding tub, creating a spa-like retreat within the cabin.
- Loft Bathroom — Full bath equipped with a shower/tub combo for flexible use.
For your comfort, Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner are provided.

Outdoor Living and River Access
The Etowah River is the heart of this property, and unlike many rentals with only a small access point, Harris Hyde Away offers significant private river frontage. Guests enjoy complete privacy at the water’s edge, with only the occasional kayaker drifting by.
A moderately steep private trail (walking sticks provided) takes you down to the sandbar, where you can:
- Swim or wade in the refreshing shallows.
- Try your luck fishing along the river’s edge.
- Relax riverside in Adirondack chairs set on a soft white sand embankment, or enjoy the picnic table and grill.
Water shoes are recommended for navigating the natural riverbed. Days are best spent at the river, and when the sun sets, guests gather at the large fire pit in front of the cabin, where extra camp chairs, complimentary firewood, and the night sky create lasting memories. A cooler bag is also provided, making it easy to bring food and drinks down to the riverbank for picnics or grilling.
Wildlife and Nature
Harris Hyde Away is part of a living ecosystem. Large butterfly bushes near the cabin attract colorful butterflies throughout the warmer months, and more can often be seen congregating on the shoal at the water’s edge. Guests may also spot deer and other local wildlife moving through the trees, a reminder that this property is immersed in nature.
