Mountain View's Story...
After years of city life, native-born Georgians David and Regina decided it was time for a change. The mountains in the northern part of the state appealed to them (Regina saw mountains every day of her life growing up), but when the realtor took him to a small property between two tiny towns in the Blue Ridge range, David was a bit hesitant.
âWe always lived in the metro area, and originally didnât want to look that far out,â David tells me. âBut when I walked up to that ridge (where the RV is now) and took in the view, I immediately pulled out my phone to write Regina a message.â
That text to his wife said, âThis is it.â
***
âWe fell in love with that piece of land before we even walked the property,â David says of their three acres. And now, just a few years later, theyâre full-time Dahlonegans.
âWe live just a couple of miles from town, on a peaceful mountain road, and we love it here. Being from the city as we are, Dahlonega is a âHallmark town,ââ David smiles. âItâs homey, locally owned, and has its own quaint and quiet personality.â
***
In the RV there is a roll of paper that guests use to leave notes and comments about their stay. David still has every single one. He gets the pile of unbleached papers out of the closet and reads some to me, pride and joy in his voice. The view and sunset are a common theme. âThank you for the beautiful mountain escape,â reads one. âPeaceful, beautiful, spectacular!â is another. âSerene getaway, sunset amazing!â And my favorite, the exclamatory and simple, âSâmores! Hiking! Hospitality!â
Itâs that hospitality piece that drives David and Regina. They love welcoming people to their adopted home, and the RV atop the ridge. When I made the mistake of calling it a âtrailer,â David corrected me.
âCalling this a âtrailer,ââ he says, âis like calling The Hilton a Motel 6,â he laughs. âItâs spacious, comfortable, and clean. I mean, we keep it almost too clean â obsessively clean! And the kitchen⊠We had a legit chef stay there once, and you should have seen some of the feasts he whipped up in that kitchen. âTrailer!ââ He chuckles.

When there are no guests staying in the âHilltop Hilton,â David and Regina head up to the ridge around sunset time with their dogs (yes, theyâre dog people, and would love to host yours, too, providing theyâre on the smaller side â see The Small Print for details), light a fire in the stone pit, and open a bottle of local wine.
âWe sit there, rocking on those big swings, listening to the wind chimes on the breeze. Sometimes we see local critters â deer, turkeys, coyotes, rabbits, ermine, even a black bear every once in a blue⊠Itâs downright spectacular. Once full dark comes, you look up and thereâs stars galore, and you can see the Milky Way.â
Spectacular, indeed.
