The Neighborhood:

Home to the world renowned Cleveland Clinic Main Campus! We are a 10 minute walk from the front doors of the Clinic.



Hough is a neighborhood situated on the East Side of Cleveland, Ohio. Roughly two square miles, the neighborhood is bounded to Superior and Euclid Avenue between East 55th and East 105th streets. Placed between Downtown Cleveland and University Circle, Hough borders Fairfax and Cedar–Central to the South and Glenville and St. Clair–Superior to the North. The neighborhood became a target for revitalization during the mid-20th century, after the 1966 Hough Riots.



Hough is home to some historical places, which include:



Crawford-Tilden Apartments on East 84th Street and Crawford, on the southwest corner. Built in 1908, the apartments are in the National Register of Historic Places and are a Cleveland Designated Landmark.

League Park on East 66th Street and Lexington Avenue, the original ballpark of the Cleveland Spiders/Indians and the Negro League's Cleveland Buckeyes. While much of the stadium was demolished in the 1950s, the diamond is now a part of a public park.

The East 89th Street Historic District is a small residential sect between Chester and Hough Avenue and is home to colonial revival housing indicative of the affluent residents that lived in Hough at the turn of the century.

The Charles F. Schweinfurth Residence close to the corner of Chester and East 75th Street was the home of the prominent Cleveland architect. Originally built for a member of the Vanderbilt family, the structure resembles a castle. After Schweinfurth's death, the house became a funeral home from 1930 to 1970, where it was then bought out and preserved in a larger 1970s attempt to revitalize the area.



Getting Around:

A car is recommended for transportation, however, our unit is located close to the RTA line for bus or train.

The management company that takes care of this apartment was easy to work with and were very quick to respond to my questions. The apartment overall was very clean and well taken care of but the building in general was in rough shape. There was garbage and mail all over the entry way and in the laundry room. Plus mud and dirt had been tracked in up and down the stairways. It just felt like no one was in charge of taking care of the building. Too bad as it is a lovely old Victorian. My only issue with the apartment itself is that I booked it for 7 nights and after night 1, I let Mark from the property management company know that the shower did not warm up and could he send someone to turn up the temperature on the water heater. This did not happen and I had to shower at a nearby hotel where my parents were staying. I let Mark know that the shower was still cold each day that I was there. He assured me that a plumber would come and fix the problem. Again, this did not happen. Finally on the last day when I asked him for a partial refund, he said he was sorry for the inconvenience of the cold shower but had I tried pulling out the shower handle and then turning it to hot. Evidently this issue was already known, yet I was only finding about about how to get the water to a normal temperature on my last day at the apartment. Super frustrating, as there was no acknowledgement of my issue and how to make it right. So all in all, I would not recommend this place to others.

As I explained earlier in and out the check-in description described the gate and sent me a code to get through the gate. There is no gate. It made me confused about whether I was at the right house. Just open the door which leads to another door in you’re in the main lobby first floor. Is not a very secure way to get in the house. Bike could just walk up and be in the house but not in a room.

Nice, sunny apartment that is very convenient for why we visited Cleveland. 20 minutes walk to the Cleveland Museum, 25 to Severance Hall and Maltz Performing Arts Center. 3 things stood out - responsive heating/cooling system, cleanliness and comfortable bed. We arrived on a chilly, rainy day in May and was really appreciative that the heat in the house was on. We could control the heat/air inside the apartment, which we made use of, during the unseasonably cold Memorial day weekend. Everything was cleaned well in the spacious apartment, i.e., no sticky equipment, dusty corners. Not only was the bed comfortable but the sheets were of good quality, soft & easy on the skin. While the location is perfect for what we want to do, there is not much in the neighborhood. A car is helpful if you want to have some groceries. The kitchen was decently equipped for a longish stay. Getting to downtown and uptown via public transport was easy.
