Ferme Bradley Cross, Shepherds Cottage

Sur les collines de Mendip, se trouve un cottage en pierre dans une ferme en activitĂ©, avec une vue imprenable sur les niveaux du Somerset. Le chalet a Ă©tĂ© construit vers 1850 et Ă©tait autrefois occupĂ© par le berger local qui faisait paĂźtre ses moutons dans cette zone des collines de Mendip. Aujourd'hui, la terre est pĂąturĂ©e par les races traditionnelles de bovins Longhorn et de moutons cornes du Wiltshire, bien adaptĂ©es Ă  la gestion des prairies naturelles de la ferme. Les gorges de Cheddar, site d’intĂ©rĂȘt scientifique spĂ©cial, se trouvent au nord de la ferme et le bois de Mascalls, un ancien boisĂ©, Ă  l'ouest. Le village de Cheddar et les magasins locaux sont Ă  environ 1 mile du cottage. IdĂ©al pour les marcheurs et Ă  proximitĂ© de la voie Mendip.

Perfect!

A perfect place to stay in Cheddar! The view is beautiful, and farm eggs kindly offered by Paul and Juddy, delicious! The cottage is equiped with everything you need- including a stove and a microwave. The road to the farm looks a little steep at first, but I had no problem going up the hill with my regular, "economy" rental car. Paul and Judy gave me great tips to enjoy my quick halt in Bath. And, the Mendip hills area- where the cottage is located- offers very pretty hikes. Great hosts, and great place to stay! I highly recommend it if you like/need/want some countryside, not so far from the coast!

Cosy, compact property overlooking Cheddar and the Somerset Levels. We found the property to be ideal for our short stay with excellent walking direct from the cottage. Paul and Judy were very helpful and made us welcome, helping with any info required. The farm dogs (Meg & Tess) were friendly and interacted well with our dog (Ralph). My advice would be to ensure you thoroughly read the directions to find the property, and your vehicle needs a degree of power to navigate the route to the cottage. However once reached the views are stunning from this small, quirky but comfortable property

2 day family visit

This accommodation was perfect for my partner and I who needed to be in Cheddar with our dog for a couple of nights. The accommodation was as pictured, the shower was hot and powerful, the kitchen had 2 electric hob rings/microwave and fridge. All the required utensils for simple cooking, tea, coffee and sugar . Logs for the wood burner were also provided.

Want to gatekeep, but...

Exactly as described and exactly as other users have set out. Lovely little bolthole at the top of the lane on a farm with a view for days. Simple and effective. Worth going back for Paul andJudy alone, fab hosts. We will be back.

Cosy, rustic cottage on the hills

Excellent secluded spot outside and overlooking Cheddar, out in wide open fields within a minute and up to the gorge in about 15. Rustic, cosy little house with all the essentials and a stocked wood burner. Friendly host and dogs! Also had a small milk in the fridged stocked when we arrived which was a nice touch. 2 single beds might not be up all couples' streets, but well worth it otherwise.

Lovely farm stay

We enjoyed staying in Paul and Judy’s shepherd hut. It is small and cozy and had everything we needed. The farm is open and has wonderful walking trails up to the top of the hill and over looking the gorge. We saw the cows and sheep Doug had a great visit with Paul, learning about the rare cows and sheep they raise. Be sure to get some local eggs and Jam from the farm- we were sad to realize we could have had fresh eggs after we bought some in town! Highly recommend this as a place to stay and enjoy the Cheddar area!

I single mum went with my daughter to stay few days, but our terrible experience left a scar on us.. On arrival, two big dogs ran towards us jumping on us. My daughter did freeze as one dog nearly her height, jumped on her, the owner did not ask the dogs to step down. The property inside was infested with clouds of flies in our room, so I asked for assistance, the lady offered that we apply a spray, but the other owner said, "You will have to get used to it, we have them everywhere." There were also numerous of giant spiders and webs above our beds, I had to remove and clean all this, certainly not what I paid for. When tried to cook, there were also spider webs in the drinking glasses, grease and dirt on the pots etc, seem an issue of hygiene. Once the night fell, we were disturbed by loud noises from rodents above us, giving us anxiety and making it impossible to sleep. The worst was in the morning, after I politely notified the owner of my concerns and stated that I had no choice but to leave, requesting a partial refund, I was packing our belongings in the car, when the owner, approached us shouting at me with much anger, using offensive language, saying that he was “very angry” and that I would not “see my money back”. His behaviour was very threatening, he was waving and raising his arms on my face. Frightened by the owner attitude we quickly got in the car and left immediately. This was utterly unacceptable especially in front of a child, as I said left a scar on us.

Short Break

Last minute booking, the hosts were great and very responsive to our request to bring 2 dogs. Perfect little cottage for dogs, had all the amenities you need and very well located. The area is very dog friendly and we would not hesitate to return.

Paul was very easy to work with prior to trip and a delight in person. The converted barn has all the ingredients for a restful retreat nestled in a beautiful farm looking out over Cheddar and surrounds. We had a great time with hosts that got the balance right between friendly and helpful and leaving us to do our own thing. Would be back in a flash if Australia wasn’t so far away.

We had a very lovely stay. The Shepherds hut has everything you need for a relaxing stay, location, views, facilities and very welcoming and kind hosts. We really enjoyed the tranquility and the abundance of unspoilt nature and wildlife at the property and beyond. We were warmly greeted on our arrival, parked our vehicle and there it stayed until we had to leave ( didn't want too!) Great local area to explore on foot, with lots of helpful information and tips from Paul who made us feel very welcome including our little four legged rascal .A big thank you and we very much look forward to returning
