The Funky Pine Cabin, Paddle boards + Dock
Wake up to the shimmer of Rose Lake right outside your window. This charming two-bedroom lakefront cabin sits directly on the water's edge in peaceful Cataldo, Idaho — where the only agenda is slowing down and soaking it all in.
**Life on the Lake**
Step onto the porch and let the lake views do the talking. The dining and living room windows frame an uninterrupted panorama of the water, so whether you're sipping your morning coffee or sharing a meal at sunset, Rose Lake is always part of the experience. Head down to your private dock to fish, launch a paddleboard, or simply dangle your feet over the water. Paddle boards, kayaks, floaty toys, and life jackets are all provided — just grab one and go. Rose Lake is a fantastic fishing spot — grab some worms or hot dogs and try your luck with the bluegill right from the dock.
**The Cabin**
This is a true Pacific Northwest hunting cabin — rustic, character-filled, and proudly imperfect. Red wood siding, a bold teal metal roof, and towering pines set the scene outside. Inside, you'll find two cozy bedrooms and a lived-in warmth that only a cabin of this age and history can offer. It has been expanded over the years with add-on areas that add to its quirky, one-of-a-kind charm. There's a sunroom, a front living and dining space with those stunning lake-facing windows, and A/C for the front rooms (remote located on the wall behind the couch) to keep things comfortable in the summer months.
**Honest Cabin Notes** — We'd Rather You Know Upfront
We believe the best guest experiences start with transparency, so here's what makes this cabin real:
- Entry: Access to the cabin is via a dirt path from the parking area with a slight downward slope at the end — wear comfortable shoes and take it easy. River shoes or water shoes are highly recommended for lake access as there is no gangway to the dock.
- Bathroom: The bathroom features exposed plumbing — it's functional, just not fancy. The faucet has a washing machine-style lever that releases water quickly, so turn it slowly. The shower has a maximum height of approximately 5'10" — a shower bench is provided in the bathroom for taller guests.
- Mosquitoes: Summer evenings bring the bugs. Bug spray and use of the screen door will be your best friends. We recommend keeping the screen door closed to keep them out of the cabin.
- Kitchen: There is no garbage disposal — a strainer is provided, please dump contents into the trash. Please also use only the provided toilet paper in the toilet; all other products go in the waste basket beside it.
- No fireplace or wood stove use.
- No washer on site — a dryer is available for wet swimwear and lake clothes.
- BBQ is available for guest use — please clean it after use.
- A/C only covers the front rooms, not the bedrooms.
**The Neighborhood**
You're tucked into a quiet stretch of Park Road along the shores of Rose Lake. Please drive slowly on Park Rd — it's a peaceful community and your neighbors will appreciate it. There are two parking spots just off the street in front of the cabin. If you need to turn around, please drive to the end of the road rather than using the lot directly across the street.
You may also meet Ellie, a sweet black lab who roams the area — she belongs to a neighbor and is completely friendly. Fair warning: if you engage with her, she will adopt you for the duration of your stay and demand fetch and treats. A simple "go home, Ellie" does the trick.
Quiet, dirt road, rural river-valley neighborhood with a mix of small old homes, rural properties and seasonal tourism (camping, fishing, trail users). Key local attractions: Coeur d’Alene’s Old Mission State Park (historic mission building and visitor center), the South Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River, and access to the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes. Scenic views, wildlife (moose, deer, waterfowl) and outdoor recreation define the immediate area; commercial amenities are limited locally and concentrated in Coeur d’Alene (west) and the Silver Valley towns along I‑90.
Primary access is by private vehicle via Interstate 90 (I‑90) and local county roads; drive times vary with mountain terrain and weather. Walking and local cycling are feasible for short trips and trail access (Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes). No local public bus service in Cataldo — regional transit and intercity bus services are available in Coeur d’Alene and Spokane. Rideshare availability is limited; expect to rely on taxis, rental car, or personal vehicle for most trips. Nearest full-service hospitals and large grocery stores are in Coeur d’Alene (~24 miles west).
