Villa Drago: An Eco-Friendly Woodland Retreat for Nature Lovers



If you are looking for a stay truly immersed in nature, Villa Drago is your perfect destination. Part of the historic Tenuta Fonte del Sasso country estate—now owned by a famous local oenologist and  winemaker  — the property is surrounded by thousands of hectares of untouched woods and countryside. Reached via a scenic road through the forest, the villa provides a secluded haven of total peace and quiet where wild deer often visit in the quiet of the morning. 



The four-bedroom home has been lovingly restored with eco-sustainable principles, featuring natural materials, solar hot water, and pellet-powered underfloor heating.   Inside, music lovers will be delighted to find a piano, perfect for relaxing evenings.  Outdoors, guests can unwind by the private pool or on the large shaded veranda, both offering stunning views of the pristine forest. Family-friendly amenities, including a crib and highchair, are also provided.



Good to know: The owners reside in a separate wing at the back of the property with their own independent entrance, accompanied by a few gentle cats and their friendly dog, Drago — the inspiration behind the villa’s name! To ensure a peaceful environment for the resident pets and the guests, the property is strictly pet-free for guests.



The Location: The villa is reachable via a scenic 1.1 km unpaved road through the forest. While tucked away in nature, it remains perfectly central for exploring Tuscany and reaching daily conveniences such as:

2.5 km away: The hamlet of Orentano (grocery store, bars, restaurants andexcellent pizzerias).

10-minute drive: The larger town of Altopascio (major supermarkets,shops, and traditional bakeries).

25-minute drive: Pisa International Airport.

15 to 60-minute drive: Easy access to Tuscany’s greatest destinations,including Lucca, Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano, Siena, and the coast.

Ground Floor: outdoor porch/veranda, grand kitchen, dining room, living room with fireplace, 1 bathroom with built-in shower.

First Floor: 1 master bedroom with ensuite bathroom (tub and shower enclosure), 1 master bedroom, 1 twin bedroom, 1 bathroom with built-in shower, 1 bathroom with tub and shower enclosure.

Second Floor: 1 master bedroom.

Wifi is available throughout the villa. Fans in each room.

Notes: The owner lives with his dog in a small apartment inside the property with separate access in one side/back of the villa.

This is an unfenced property at the middle of a wood, very close to the village of Orentano.

It is a clean, nice, decorative villa, lots of spaces in villa and surrounding area to enjoy your holiday. Filippo who helped to check in and check out is a lovely young man and explained us everything in the villa details, and also easy to contact if you have any queries during your stay. We had a great time staying here.

The house was beautiful. A slice of heaven tucked away in Tuscany. The host was fantastic. Very responsive and we arranged for her to cook for us one night and had a wine tasting alongside. I highly recommend this experience to anyone staying. The food and wine were incredible. It would be handy to have a few wash pods & dishwasher pods included

A really lovely and stylish Villa

This is a really lovely and stylish house surrounded by nature, allowing the guests to really relax and rest. Lucca is about half an hour drive away. Filippo was extremely helpful and even managed to fix the wi-fi very quickly, as it was down when we arrived due to weather. We had a great time and would definitely stay here again when in the area. The house has everything one needs for a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Everything was perfect. But I will recommend that you rent a car We were a family of 7, and we always had good space. The owner of the property also have a wine yard where we had a lovely time wine-tasting good wine. I would absolutely recommend this place. We loved it! .

A fabulous house with all that we needed. The check in was easy with such a positive greeting at our arrival. All was explained with detail and efficiency. Nothing was left out. The hosts were absolutely fantastic. We felt at home as soon as we arrived. Actually, we found it hard to leave. Grazie Mille to Saverio and Stefania (as well as Filippo). We couldn’t have asked for anything more. We highly recommend staying here.

It was a great family getaway.

The property manager, Filipino, was very responsive and helpful. Property was large and very private. Small village of Orentano was a 10 minutes away for groceries. Florence was about 1.5 hours away. We hired a private chef for two nights (through Arianna and Friends) and they were excellent. I would highly recommend them. We rented the villa with our son, daughter-in-law and their two small children. THey enjoyed the stay as well. The pool was a nice bonus.

The House is Amazing

The house is amazing and it’s extremely private. We really enjoyed ourselves for 5 days, mixing day trips to nearby towns (Lucca was great!) and beaches with days by the pool in the garden. Perfect for us - 6 adults of 70-35 years and three kids of 1-5 years. The owner, Severio, turned up quite late at night and stayed at his apartment in another end of the house for one night, I assume just to check out who we were. Didn’t disturb us - he was really nice, told us about the house and it’s surroundings and welcomed us with a bottle of wine. All in all a very pleasant stay that perfectly matched our expectations, a lot thanks to the host’s thorough and correct descriptions of the house. The host’s representative, Filippo, was great.

Villa Drago Tuscany

Beautiful restored house, very clean and tidy, nice furnishings, very well equipped. The hosts are wonderful people, very kind and knowledgeable, were greeted with a bottle of wine from their own winery! Loved Drago, big beautiful dog…and Menoo the kitty! We felt the house was a bit isolated, a little too far to walk into Orentano. Road in was a bit rough but no problem for SUV’s etc. However, with that said, the house was in a beautiful serene setting with a nice firefly display at night! We thoroughly enjoyed! Stunning large country house

We loved our 7-night stay in this stunning large country house in a woodland setting. The house is beautifully furnished with antique furniture, artwork and plants in a way that celebrates the charm of the home. The large kitchen was equipped with everything we needed and we enjoyed bringing Tuscan delights back to the house to make meals together. The grounds are lovely and the bravest amongst us enjoyed a dip in the pool in April! All the bedrooms were comfortable and we all slept very peacefully in this quiet, rural setting. The location is great. There are walks through the woodlands directly from the property. There's a small village a short drive away with cafe and restaurant and then a town about 10-15 minutes away that has everything you need. We really loved how easy it was to make day trips to Lucca, Cinque Terre and small hilltop towns. The host was very responsive and really wanted to make sure we had a good stay. Highly recommended.

Super séjour dans cette maison au milieu des champs et de la campagne toscane ! Filippo nous a accordé un super accueil ! Nous avons eu un peu de mal à trouver la villa dans la nuit - le chemin est assez difficile d’accès (difficile avec une citadine, nous avions un SUV donc cela allait) Sur place, cuisine et équipement très corrects, belles prestations, jardin impeccable et piscine très sympathique ! Quelques jeux de société dans la maison seraient un vrai plus !
