Sanctuary Vacation Rentals is proud to present the "Robert R. Jones House"! This home sleeps up to 4 guests.

Designed by and named for a noted architect who once worked with Frank Lloyd Wright, this warm mid-century home evokes all the feelings of old Carmel but has all the modern conveniences one would expect from any well-equipped vacation home today. Built in the early 1940's the Robert R. Jones House is an example of the modernist style that influenced so much of his work. The home is still owned and cared for by the family of Mr. Jones who are artists in their own right - well-lit paintings and photographs adorn the home's walls adding to its unique character.

Located on the north side of Carmel, bordering Pescadero Canyon, guests will feel like they are just out of the fray and bustling traffic of downtown, but will be within just a few minutes from downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea, not to mention a short drive to any Monterey Peninsula location like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, numerous golfing options and a bevvy of hiking trails and parks from which to choose.

Guests will be delighted by the lush, well-cared for front garden which is an object of pride and joy of the homeowners. Upon entering the gate from the driveway, visitors pass through this feast for the eyes which is also on full display from inside the home. Floor to ceiling windows in the living room are perfectly positioned to bring the outdoors in.

Living Spaces
The 1,278 sf single-level home has a simple, pleasant layout. The carpeted living room has a corner sofa and comfortable barrel chairs in a grouping perfect for conversations, games and relaxing; the flat screen Smart TV is here as well as a decorative, candle-lit fireplace. Nearby, a small desk and office chair are situated directly in front of a large bank of windows - if you aren't careful, you may get distracted by the beautiful garden view. A dining table and credenza are on the other side of the living space closer to the kitchen.

Kitchen
Don't be concerned for an instant that a mid-century kitchen like this one might not have all the bells and whistles you are accustomed to.
All the basics including a dishwasher are present, and an abundance of light washes over the large counter-tops, making it a particularly cheerful place to prepare meals. The fully-equipped kitchen has smaller appliances like the ever essential drip coffee maker and even a Keurig single cup option. The laundry center is conveniently located in the kitchen as well.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Bedroom #1 has a queen bed and an en suite bathroom with a shower over tub.
Bedroom #2 has a queen bed.
The hallway bathroom has a shower over tub.

Outdoors
The back patio has a table and chairs for outdoor dining and overlooks a verdant landscape. The lot backs up to Pescadero Canyon and though there are neighbors on each side, there are no homes directly behind, making this a quiet, peaceful space.

Off street parking for one vehicle is available in the driveway; another car may park in front of the home next to the street. The garage is not available for guest use.

The home does not typically welcome pets at this time but if you have a particularly well-behaved small dog, ask our Reservations Agents about the possibility of bringing your buddy along.

The house itself is beautiful and clean! The neighbors are a bit overwhelming rushing over to have us turn off the outside lights by 10 pm. If you are planning to go out at night plan on coming back to a pitch black house.

Amazing home in tranquil garden setting!

We absolutely loved this property! Private and quiet, with beautiful views from every window! We spent all of our down time relaxing and enjoying the house and gardens. It was a wonderful place to come home to after exploring the CA coast each day!

Great Place in Carmel

This is a lovely property in Carmel. The gardens are spectacular for hanging out in during nice weather. The kitchen is well appointed. The beds are incredibly comfortable. I would stay here again.

Peaceful setting

The house and gardens were so lovely we could spent the entire week relaxing in this home. But easy walking distance to the beach and town as well as driving distance to Pt Lobos and Monterey Bay aquarium made local exploring delightful. Nice to return home for relaxed family meals

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house has great design and a superb garden, and is super quiet, all of which we loved. Also, the property management company was great, they communicated well and very quickly acted to resolve a couple of issues we reported. But I would not stay here again, nor recommend it to a friend. It's in desperate need of internal renovation. No matter how well cleaned, it looks and feels grubby and smells old. I don't know how old the bathrooms and kitchen are, but likely many decades. And the hill location means it's just possible to walk in/out of town, but there's no views and it loses evening light early. So, no real advantage in the near-Carmel location.

Gorgeous location

The house is in a beautiful setting. The front and back patios are surrounded by big, beautiful trees and lush gardens. Perfect for a sisters trip! Our only issue was with the neighbor that does not like when lights are on (even inside the house) at night. We spent the rest of the trip living in the dark at night so as not to have another visit from him.

Lovely MCM

Wonderful MCM home. Great example of the MCM architecture and California style home. The home is nestled in historic Carmel By the Sea, with beautiful patios and well equipped kitchen. Easy access to town and to Highway 1 for day trips and sight seeing. The home is older but well maintained with most of the MCM features maintained while being updated.

Very peaceful

We came to see the nature of the coast, so we were in and out the entire time. We didn't spend much time at the property during the day, but the evenings were peaceful. The house was very well stocked. Had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable. The house was clean. The gardens are beautiful, so many birds and hummingbirds. Thank you, we had a lovely time.

The descriptions before we arrived were helpful and accurate and the communication with Sanctuary Rentals was very good. Dining and sitting areas were very cozy in which to relax and visit with friends. Though only just less than a mile from town, it is an up and down walk, but a delight to walk the streets and enjoy the forest...we even had two deer visit us on the street! If you do not want to be right in the middle of central Carmel, this is a wonderful, not to far away cottage.
