The Neighborhood:
The village of Armathwaite is placed for exploring the Lake District, Eden Valley and the Solway Firth. The village has two pubs with restaurants, a Post Office and a shop. The River Eden runs through the village. The area is known for fishing, walking, canoeing and climbing. Armathwaite Castle is a four-storey Pele Tower, and the 15th century church has stained glass windows. The Eden Gorge, between Lazonby and Armathwaite is worth exploring. The railway station is a stop on the Settle-to-Carlisle Railway, a beautiful journey. The Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith is the "largest grass covered building in the country" or you might like to visit Dalemain Historic House, featured in a television production of Jane Eyre.
