Inspired by the spirit of Thoreau’s Walden and the idea of simple living close to nature, the lodge blends influence from New England with a strong sense of Welsh heritage. Inside, timber-clad walls, oak flooring and Welsh slate create a fresh, natural feel, while carefully chosen artwork reflects themes of migration, poetry and place. The open-plan living space is bright and welcoming, with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and a comfortable sitting space centred around a wood burner, perfect for slower evenings and cooler coastal nights.

Walden Lodge sleeps up to four guests across two bedrooms, with an additional bunk making it a flexible option for families or small groups. The spacious bathroom features a large walk-in shower, and thoughtful touches throughout ensure a comfortable and easy stay. Step outside onto the private terrace, where you can sit back with a morning coffee or unwind in the evening, taking in the ever-changing views of sea and sky.

Set within seven and a half acres of arboretum and wild gardens, the lodge sits alongside St Donat’s Castle in a quiet and unspoilt corner of the Vale of Glamorgan. Despite its peaceful setting, Cardiff is just 25 minutes away, offering the perfect balance of coast and city. The surrounding Heritage Coast is renowned for its dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and scenic walking routes, making it ideal for those keen to explore on foot. Along the way, you’ll find quiet beaches, wildlife-rich landscapes and sweeping coastal views at every turn.

Nearby villages and market towns offer a warm Welsh welcome, with independent shops, traditional pubs and locally sourced food, while the area itself is steeped in history and folklore. Walden Lodge forms part of a thoughtfully created retreat by owners Tom and Paula, whose passion for craftsmanship, art and the Welsh landscape is reflected throughout. Every detail has been carefully considered, creating a space that feels both distinctive and welcoming.
