Duneshine is a true gem. This polished rental home was designed with relaxation in mind! At ground level, find ample concrete parking, an outdoor shower, a beachfront grilling station, and a boardwalk to the beach. The first level features a cathedral ceiling bunk room with plenty of space for your crew. Three rooms have deck access, perfect to make your way to our six-person hot tub at the end of a day at the beach! The second level boasts a wonderful wood-lined great room with exposed beams and stunning ocean views. The spacious dining and kitchen areas share a beautifully tiled floor and are well equipped for culinary adventures. Off the kitchen, a south-facing screened porch is a wonderful location for early morning breakfasts. An elegant wooden spiral staircase leads you to this home's third-level loft bedroom, where a private deck offers unprecedented views of the Atlantic. Expansive decks on all three levels capitalize on the house's oceanfront location and allow for plenty of time relaxing or entertaining outside.

Hot tub unavailable for safety reasons. Thankfully, it was unseasonably warm, so I was able to walk the beach, in lieu of hot tub time. Cottage was clean. I had to secure all of the windows because they were not closed all of the way. I have been in many many Avon, NC rentals over the years and this was among the cleanest and coziest. Plenty of rooms and bathrooms for a family of 5-10.

First OBX trip

It was pricey for basically 3 full days. The property was dated and cleanliness was fair. We found pills from previous people I assume. One dish towel in kitchen and we cooked a lot so hard to use same one. Had to wash bath towels daily as well. The house was cozy and we did enjoy being right on the beach.

Disappointed

The positive aspects of this property are it’s a great location, beautiful views, and awesome proximity to the beach. The negative aspects are the safety, cleanliness, and bug issues/concerns we noted with our stay at this property. The safety concerns were regarding the deck. We had found several spindles that were loose or missing. This limited our use of the deck due to small children in our group. The cleanliness of the property was very poor. We experienced Everything from toilets that were not flushed from the previous guests to dirty floors, kitchen counters, and the hot tub which was unusable For most of our stay. There is also an ongoing issue with Bugs in this property. This has been consistently noted in previous reviews. We had hoped this would have been resolved based on the responses to these reviews But it has not. The situation was so bad we were unable to use the beds located in the loft area. Upon contacting the rental agency and explaining our concerns we were provided with a small refund. The rental agency staff were very responsive but also gave the impression of being very accustomed to these complaints and responses. We would not plan on going back to this Property nor would we recommend this property to anyone else.

Overall, very satisfied

House is in a great location, reasonably priced, amenities are sufficient, the layout made it easy to find some privacy even with others in the house, kitchen was well stocked, beds were very comfortable, everything you need is within a 3 minute drive, and I would certainly consider staying here again. However, all is not perfect here.... Some mild upgrades, like new carpet and screen doors, blinds that work properly, and a thorough cleaning would greatly enhance this location. That said, we DID enjoy our stay.

Dunshine is a spacious home in a wonderful location.

My daughter and I stayed at Dunshine for a week in October, our fourth time at the OBX, but our first time staying in Avon. The home could easily accommodate a large family with ample bedrooms/bathrooms and room for more than one cook in the kitchen. Although, it's close to the grocery store, shopping, and restaurants, it's on the beach (panoramic ocean views! the sound of the waves! gorgeous sunrises!), away from the road and there was no traffic noise. Unfortunately, Dunshine is in need of a BIG dose of TLC; I've made a report to Hatteras Realty, from whom we rented. Not only does it need repairs to screens, blinds in several rooms are broken, and one of the four burners on the stove doesn't work at all. Most importantly, there is a cockroach issue that needs to be dealt with. If Dunshine were to receive the attention it deserves, I wouldn't hesitate to rent it again - it has a lot to offer.

Great location but house needs refreshing

We had a great week but it has to do more with the location and the weather. Have to say that the house was a big disapointment. First the positives: great location; beautiful beach, close to stores for groceries, kitchen well stocked, outdoor shower was convenient when returning from the beach. Plenty of room for all to sleep and beds were comfortable. Floor plan of house is very open, giving beautiful views of the ocean. Air conditioning is quite strong and independend system on both main floors, which allows to easily cool the house to sleep well at night. But unfortunately the house needs significant updating: we also saw (and killed) a cockroach as per previous review but that was far from being the biggest issue; a kitchen cabinet door was dangerously dangling so we had to remove it (could not re-install); the bathroom shower curtains had significant mold and should have been replaced; some bathroom shower carpets had not been cleaned; bathtub drains let water flow very slowly which resulted in taking showers with water ankle-high all week, the outside eating area is screened but one of the panels is missing a screen, which results in bugs being able to enter the area. Kitchen counter has lots of chipped corners, not a huge deal but demonstrates the rough shape this house is in. We did complete an online maintenance form with the rental company (Hatteras Realty) for the kitchen cabinet door and the shower curtains but never heard back from them. Yes we could have called, but if an online process is offered it should result in a quick response right? Overall cleanliness of house was average when we arrived. Cleaning company surely know windows can be cleaned. Pray that your week has lots of sun in order for you to spend all of your time outside, like we did, because the house is not where you will want to spend time. Major updating required for the price that is asked to rent this house. Oversall, we enjoyed our stay but it had nothing to do with the house, but rather beach and weather. Would suggest location to friends but not this house.

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay in this property! The views were incredible and the location was conveniently located to restaurants & grocery stores. We pointed out some maintenance issues to Hatteras Realty and they quickly sent someone over to review them while we were there. This house will definately be on our "short list" for return visits! Awesome Location and House

The house was in a great location, convenient to everything! The house is very spacious and the decks are amazing. It is a very short walk to the beach. The kitchen could use some updates but all appliances worked. We did have some issues with the plaster on the ceiling but someone came out quickly to check it. I would definitely stay here again!

Beyond perfection.

I've been vacationing at the Outer Banks for over 20 years, 10 of those in Avon. Duneshine exceeded my expectations and was by far the best home I have stayed in. Duneshine is a beautiful home with a lovely open living/kitchen area. The ocean is clearly seen on all levels. Four bedrooms and the living/kitchen areas are off the decks with breathtaking views of the ocean and dunes. Very easy walk to the beach. The kitchen is well-stocked. Comfortable beds and furniture. I didn't give it 5 stars because the kitchen could be a little cleaner (floor and cabinets drawers.) I would stay at Duneshine again without any hesitation. We had a marvelous vacation!

Duneshine was a perfect fit for our 2 family vacation. 4 adults and 7 kids slept comfortably. For a Beachfront property,the price was extremely reasonable. Needs a new grill, basketball hoop and updated decor. We were worried about not having a private pool, but club Hatteras was great!
