Location, location, location! Villa Jeni enjoys a privileged position on an elevated hillside and is the first property you come to as you enter the village of Plaka. It is blessed with sweeping 180 degree views over Souda Bay to the west, and the spectacular White Mountains in the south, and is within enviably close proximity of the area’s star attractions. A leisurely 600m walk downhill will find you standing on family friendly sandy beaches, paddling in the crystal clear, azure sea, dining at superb open-air tavernas, or buying fresh local produce from the variety of shops in the small but vibrant village of Almyrida, whilst a short 600m walk uphill takes you to the excellent tavernas and well stocked mini markets dotting the charismatic village square of Plaka. In addition, Villa Jeni is good value, making it a very popular option for both couples and families seeking comfort, and convenience within a relaxed Mediterranean village.

Villa Jeni is a recently revamped modern home that has a calming ambience and very light and airy feel, due in part to the traditionally Greek blue and white colour scheme that has been infused with contemporary grey, and the nautical theme that is in keeping with the villa’s wonderful coastal setting. The villa itself is painted white throughout and has blue aluminium shutters on all of the doors and windows. Many comforts have been provided for at Villa Jeni including Free WIFI, a ceramic hob, built-in oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a washing machine; a Smart TV for use with your Netflix/YouTube/GooglePlay accounts etc, mosquito screens, and air conditioning units in the living room/kitchen and all 3 bedrooms. The A/C units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season, there is a large fireplace (though wood is not included in the rental price) and the water is heated by either environmentally friendly solar panel or a back-up immersion heater.

Following the contours of the land, and stepping down the hillside, the exterior has been creatively landscaped to give you a choice of different areas in which to relax and take in the superlative views. Only a few paces take you from the interiors, through double French doors, or a single door in the open plan living room/kitchen, to the front, pergola shaded patio which has a lounging and dining area that is sure to be the setting for many delicious al-fresco meals, some of which will perhaps be cooked on the villa’s barbeque, whilst others may be taken away from the numerous first rate local tavernas. Steps up from here lead you to a tiled roof terrace which looks out over the entire area, whilst steps down lead you to either the private parking area, or to the pool terrace which has natural stone paving, walls made from locally sourced stone to the rear, and above these, raised flower beds that have been planted with Mediterranean plants and shrubs including vivid fuchsia bougainvillea, oleandar, and lush palms. Taking centre stage is the private pool with its pretty blue and white mosaic tiles, and 3 steps in the Roman end that are ideal for small children and less confident swimmers to sit on whilst cooling off in the refreshing pool waters during the hot summer days. The land naturally drops off at the front of the pool terrace to the road below, and because there are safety railings instead of stone walls, this is an ideal position from which to admire the stunning vistas whilst lying on a comfortable sun-lounger soaking up the rays. Accessed via the kitchen door, the back garden is a real sun trap during the day. Here you will find a second outside dining area with more privacy, and a gravelled path that leads to bench and flower bed planted with herbs that you can use for salads and cooking, including mint, basil, rosemary and oregano.

Chilling out on any of the terraces, looking out over magnificent panoramas, with tavernas, shops and sandy beaches all close by, this pretty, well-appointed house would make an excellent choice for anyone looking to keep car use to a minimum.


*** As of January 01, 2024, the Greek government have replaced the old “bed tax” with a new tax that is applied to all stays in short-term rental accommodation in Greece. The Climate Resilience Levy is a response to the devastating forest fires and floods that Greece has experienced in recent years, with the government hoping to generate extra funding that will go towards financing reconstruction, supporting victims, and increasing the country’s defences against future natural disasters.

The owners of all short-term rental accommodation are legally obliged to collect the Climate Resilience Levy as a separate tax for all overnight stays (per villa) as follows:
In 2024: €10.00 per night on stays between March 01 and October 31, and €4.00 per night on stays between November 01 and February 28/29.
In 2025: €15.00 per night on stays between March 01 and October 31, and €4.00 per night on stays between November 01 and February 28/29.

The Vrbo system does not yet have a section for collecting the Climate Resilience Levy and we have, therefore, had to add it to the billing section as an extra fee which will show on the booking as a Host Fee (until Vrbo update their system).

Whilst we understand the potential budget concerns of our guests, this tax/levy is beyond our control and we encourage our guests to see this as a way of contributing to the protection of the planet and the beautiful area where they are holidaying.

This is a beautiful villa, with stunning sea and mountain views. It’s clean, spacious, tidy and has everything you need for a great holiday. It’s a 10 minute walk to the beach, mini markets and tavernas of Almyrida and less than that to the tavernas and mini markets of Plaka.The fridge was stocked with a few essentials and treats ready for our arrival, which is a lovely touch.We didn’t need to call on the owners for anything during our stay, but the whole place was cleaned to a high standard and sheets and towels changed once a week. Air con in all rooms worked perfectly and the pool is fantastic, the perfect temperature to cool off in and always clean.There’s more outdoor space than we thought, with the pool area, front dining area, rear/side terrace, roof terrace and a balcony, all with stunning views. Watching the sunset from the roof terrace was pretty special.We have no hesitation recommending this villa and would happily stay here again. It’s a wonderful base for a wonderful holiday.

Lovely stay a Villa Jeni

Brilliant week at Villa Jeni. Lovely property with great pool exactly as advertised. It is in a great spot on the edge of Plaka and just up the hill from Almyrida's lovely beach and great selection of bars and tavernas. We arranged tranfers and a hire car through Villas Crete Holidays who were excellent throughout as was the property's owner who was close at hand if required - we didn't anything other than some candles during a very brief power cut. The walk to/from Almyrida is a fairly steep 500m hill so worth thinking about if mobility is a challenge, especially in summer temperatures. It was 33-35 degrees C through out our stay. Would throughly recommend the property and Frankie and the Villas Crete Holidays team.

Amazing villa - fabulous location!

We stayed at Villa Jeni for a week end June / early July. We arrived at the Villa by taxi, and once we had recovered from the incredible view (breath taking!), collected our keys (easy process) and were greeted with a lovely welcome pack. The villa is clean, comfortable and spacious with everything you need for a family holiday. The pool is beautiful, big enough to swim in whilst enjoying the view. The location is super, just a 10 min walk down to Alymyrida beach, where there are lots of lovely restaurants, bars and shops. Alternatively it is just 5 mins walk up the hill to Plaka where there are 2 good grocery stores and a few great restaurants. We didn't hire car, lots within walking distance and when we wanted to go further we used the local taxi company who were excellent. We also took the local bus to Chania for a day trip. Villa Jeni was perfect for a family holiday or for a small group of friends.

Amazing view and pool

I had a wonderful stay with my wife, mom, and 3 kids (ages 5-7) for a weeklong vacation on Crete. This place was perfect for us - gorgeous view, relaxing pool that the kids wanted to spent all day in, spacious and well-equipped villa. It was a quiet neighborhood up on a hill, so ideal for us to have some privacy, but still walking distance to the local beach and to some nearby restaurants/supermarket. Villa manager Jimmy was very nice and responsive and made sure we had all we needed.

Comfortable, spacious villa with spectacular views.

Conveniently situated a few minutes walk between Almyrida (by the beach) & Plaka village both with well stocked mini supermarkets and a variety of busy tavernas and restaurants. We shopped in Plaka with its 2 mini markets. We didn't hire a car for our week and after dinner in Almyrida we had a taxi ride back up to the villa. We all enjoyed the pool and the views across Souda Bay and the White Mountains. Excellent Wi-Fi, air conditioning and great to have a smart TV. The host who has excellent English was helpful and available.

Beautiful property,location suffered from road noise and two lots of building work. On two days there was insufficient sun to warm the water, tried backup boiler but this did not work despite following the instructions provided.

Lovely Villa with amazing View

What a lovely place and area. Ideal location so you don't need a car. We hired one half way through to explore a bit more of the area. Everything brilliantly organised by the management team from airport collection to car hire. The view is amazing and look out for the Golden Eagles.
