RotokauwaI Farmstay private, cosy ,great walks and views
Nestled upon tableland in the Okau valley is a hidden gem , private , cosy and loads of space to stretch your legs on 400 acres of pasture land and a thousand acres of native bush . Part of a working farm run by your host Evan Lobb .
We had a lovely stay over the new years! A cozy setting and good break from city life. We explored the property following the trail instructions from Evan and had fun finding the waterfall too.
An absolutely stunning location. Rolling hills, native bush and a beautiful lake. If you want to see the vast expanse of stars with no light pollution at night, settle into the rhythm of the gentleness of time without phones and TV, this is your place. It is rustic, but cozy and comfortable. So many lovely touches... lovely memories made and a few good books devoured from the deck in the sunshine. Thanks Evan for sharing this special place.
A great affordable holiday for our family of 6. Evan is a friendly host. We particularly enjoyed the walk through the bush around the little lake. Inside the house, the fire is warm, the shower is a good pressure and we had all we needed. It does get cold overnight though so keep the fire going. My only issue would be the squeaky red bunks - one needs tightening up as itâs a bit wobbly. Other than that, thanks for the memories!
Great place to stay. Fireplace is excellent!Comfortable beds.We had some minor issues with the power including a district wide power cut but the farmstay is well stocked and we still managed a cooked breakfast.
Great place, very rustic and lovely old school farming memorabilia. Don't think ive even seen a gin trap hanging in a kitchen before! Lovely hot shower and water pressure, loads of fire wood, heaps of blankets. Was what we payed for! We had a pleaant stay.
Evan's directions took us straight to our accommodation. The road up there was interesting but shouldn't put people off coming to this gorgeous part of the country. The farm was great to walk around and our dogs enjoyed it too. Great location for dark skies for astrophotography. The best compliment we can give is that we will go back.
This property and host were awesome!! From the view to the complete isolation was amazing and my family and I really enjoyed ourselves.. only difficult thing was the driveway as itâs not ideal for small car and would definitely come in a 4x4
Suited our group of 4 perfectly for a weekend of gravel cycling. Evan graded the drive for us and it was no problem for our AWD vehicles (certainly a challenge to bike up) and seeing your 2 x Nissan Leaf's at the top made me laugh :-)
Ideal facilities for our stay with all we needed and the selection of records was enjoyed. Loved the woolshed, fireplace, bike storage and shower water pressure! We hope to come again some time. It would be cool to paddle a kayak on the lake.
The farm stay is great to get away from it all and breathe some fresh air. Everything is clean and the place has everything you need. Waterfall is not too far drive.
Evan is a great host and great to chat to.
From the directions and journey in to Barry Crump reading host to the the friendly farm dogs this is a quintessential Kiwi experience. Loved being away in the working Kiwi landscape surrounded by bush covered hills.
The accommodation itself was large and welcoming with a comfortably working kitchen with all implements supplied and a modern bathroom.
The plentiful wood came in very handy as the accommodation does get cold in the afternoons and nights so get ready to stoke the fire and rug up at night. The cold is the one star off as it is very cold in the mornings after a night with no fire. I did stay in the middle of winter though!
Very friendly host. Great kiwi experience where there isn't a car noise to be heard.
We loved it out on the farm, was an awesome experience, we decided we could only stay the one night as our car wasn't up for going up the driveway haha, we loved the little house and playing pool, listening to the record player and the kids loved the open space to ride the bikes, would love to come back again, thanks for having us
