Hot-house of horrors

Room and indeed the entire upper floors are boiling. Doors and walls actually warm to the touch. No air conditioning (they switch it off, it only blows warm air) and a fridge inside a wooden cabinet, working overtime meant the room was stifling. We stayed here last year and were assured this would be fixed. Downstairs the restaurant and reception are cool, to the point of being cold, the bedrooms are like saunas. This meant we needed to have the window open, onto a building with a clock that strikes every quarter hour, all night long. The bars and clubs empty around 4am and that was more noise, not that we had slept anyway. To top it all, the heat meant there were still mosquitoes at the end of December, so I left exhausted, with three infected bites. €140 is too expensive for this hotel, that needs upgrading, the bathroom wasn’t clean enough, paper peeling off the walls, the toilet seat and wash hand basin tap was broken, the cups in the room were paper, the remote control for the TV didn’t work, the only English language station is a French news channel, the bed wasn’t particularly big, the room was small, but overall, we couldn’t sleep, the heat and noise made it impossible. Sure, the location is great and Cartagena is beautiful, but when you don’t, can’t sleep, and leave with infected bites, none of that matters.
