For Families or Business Travellers
Hotel facilities were nice enough and the pool and gym were in constant use when we were there, which is a good sign but the Executive Room left a bit to be desired. The bed was way too squishy and there was no option to "rent" just one movie from the Pay-Per-View system. Instead you had to purchase a 13-14 Pd package for the lot. Also for an Executive Room there were no option to have newspapers delivered to your room. If you're looking to travel for business on the cheap a stay just out of the city-centre and don't mind these things then it might be a good option. There were plenty of families it seemed enjoying the hotel. So I'd say it's not the hotel for couples looking to have a fun time away.

Cafe Vitta is a cute little family run Italian restaurant on Church St in Cardiff and the new Jamie Oliver restaurant is also great but be prepared to queue on busy nights.

Lovely hotel with good facilities.
Lovely hotel with good facilities. While close to Cardiff Central station it is tucked away a little bit. Best to get taxi from station.

Great room, but costly extras
I stayed in this hotel for a week since I was working in Cardiff. I chose this one since it fit my company budget (<$200 daily), and it was a 10 minute walk to Cardiff Central rail station. I requested early check-in at 11 am but no rooms were available. That wasn't a negative since the check-in was clearly at 3 pm. I was offered a secure place to store my luggage until my check-in was ready. They had two iMac computers with free internet access in the lobby. For doing business, I did not like the fact that I had to pay for wi-fi. Also for business, I did not like that the breakfast buffet was a costly 13 pounds per day. I was never disclosed this fee and did not find out until I checked out. After 5 days, that certainly adds up. I would have preferred a free continental breakfast option, especially since time is crucial in the morning and can't afford to spend time eating a large expensive breakfast. The front desk was friendly with check-in, check-out, and calling for taxis. They all had warm smiles. The cleaning service did a good job with room cleaning. Overall, I enjoyed my stay in this modern-decor hotel, but if I could find a hotel with complimentary wi-fi and breakfast, I'd choose that one over the Novotel.
