Grand Hotel Amrath Amsterdam

the construction features of this hotel are very interesting, unique, and plentiful. it isn't very often that one can stay in a converted, old business structure, origionally built with expense being slight consideration. staff was first class, room large, and my first ever free mini bar!

Our stay was romantic and most enjoyable. The rooms and bathrooms are exceptionally large by European standards. This hotel has only been open for five years; the building used to be headquarters/offices for shipping companies. Everything and everyone was lovely!

Lage und Ausstattung super, Service/Personal lässt sehr zu wünschen übrig. Zwei von vier Koffern mussten bei der Ankunft selbst ins Hotel getragen werden. Minibar war zwar inkludiert aber Flaschenöffner fehlte (musste extra angefordert werden). Eine Beleuchtungskörper am Bett war gebrochen. Nach einer Reklamation wurde dieser lediglich abmontiert aber während der gesamten Aufenthaltsdauer nicht mehr ersetzt. Staubwischen und Staubsaugen wurde nicht oder sehr mangelhaft durchgeführt. Ein persönliches Badetuch wurde vom Zimmerpersonal irrtümlicherweise mitgenommen (lag im Zimmer, Farbe weiß mit Aufdruck - also klar erkennbar im Gegensatz zu den "reinweißen" Hotelhandtüchern schlechterer Qualität). Auf eine diesbezügliche Beschwerde wurden wir lediglich von Tag zu Tag vertröstet, man werde versuchen, das Handtuch wieder zu finden, was letztendlich nicht gelang. Eine "erzwungene" Entschuldigung gab es erst am vorletzten Tag nach Kontaktierung der Servicemanagerin, die sich letztlich nach massiven Interventionen unsererseits dazu veranlasst fühlte, widerwillig ein "Gratisfrühstück" für zwei von vier Personen anzubieten. Im Spa-Bereich gab es zwei Trinkwasserspender, die jedoch mangels Befüllung durch das Personal die meiste Zeit leer waren.

Our first trip to Amsterdam, celebrating a special birthday. The Amrath did everything they possibly could to make it one that we will remember for ever. Great location, attentive service and excellent value.

Visst, man förväntar sig hög kvalitet av ett fem-stjärnigt hotell, men detta var över förväntan på alla punkter. Härlig charmig och vacker 100-årig byggnad med 3 m höga fönster, perfekt service av alla alltid, gångavstånd till stationen och till alla centrala sevärdheter. Bekvämt på alla sätt. Utmärkt och prisvärd restaurang.

Hotel is tastefully converted from prestigious shipping office headquarters and is in beautiful Art Nouveau style. High ceilings lead to spacious ambiance. Major attraction is walking distance from main rail station with excellent service to airport. Also within walking distance to many tourist spots including canal boats. Very satisfying breakfasts and many restaurants nearby.

Perfekter Service, einmalige Architektur, einige Minuten zu Fuss vom Bahnhof entfernt. Schöne Zimmer, toller Wellnessbereich, erstklassige Bar. Das einzige was ein wenig zu Wünschen übrig liess, war die Zimmertemperatur, war recht kühl, wie das Wetter allgemein an diesem Weekend. Ansonsten ein unverkrampftes und wunderbares 5* Hotel, glücklicherweise ohne Snobs und Möchtegerns.

Overall I would say that the experience was less than expected given the 5 star rating but since I received a steeply discounted rate I thought the value was appropriate. The hotel is nice but more of a traditional European hotel. I tend to prefer more modern trendy hotels (or high end chains) but if you are into old European style hotels you will enjoy it. The rooms are large with comfortable amenities including a jacuzzi tub. The free mini bar is also a nice touch. Location is convienent to the central train station and a pretty easy walk to most places in the city. Overall it is a nice hotel just had much higher expectations given the 5 star rating. I would recommend but with the caveat that it would have to be at a reasonable price.

From the moment you approach the hotel you know you are in for something special. This has the standard 5 star modern fixtures and fittings in the bedrooms (plus free mini bar!) but the entrance, dining area, reception and other communal areas are steeped in the history of the early 20th century. If you love Art Deco, Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau, then this is THE place to go. This is not a bland modern 'could be anywhere' hotel, this is a transportation back to a time when money was no object when you wanted to impress. Being only 5 minutes walk from the rail station just makes it convenient too. Staff superb. Can't recommend it enough.
