My husband and I stayed 4 nights
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at II Faro Hotel and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, particularily Nina in the breakfast room. We were given a family room overlooking the port of Sorrento which was very large. We also ate at the restaurant which was excellent. As we were staying at the hotel we enjoyed a 10pc discount at the restaurant. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Good Service, Inconvenient location
I would give this hotel 2 stars, but my husband really liked it so am giving it 3 stars to be nice. PLUSES: The staff was abundant, always available, and friendly. The hotel is situated at the port so you get a sea view and quick access to all the ferries that take you to the Amalfi coast and Capri. Also, the breakfast is decent with some variety. NEGATIVES: The room is small and the bathroom is super small. While it's nice to be at the port for the view, the beach access, and the ferries, this location proved inconvenient relative to the city center because the main center is at the Piazza Tasso which is up 200+ steps. It is some walk to get to this hub where all the nightlife and restaurants are. It wasn't too bad, maybe 10 minutes to climb all the stairs and walk to the center, however, keep in mind that you will have to transport all your luggage from that area if you arrive at the main station. The biggest downside to the hotel was that it was popular with student tour groups so we had several groups of high school or college age students staying there, making for noisy hall ways in the early morning (7 AM-ish).

Short drive from hotel
If you plan to stay at Il Faro and arrive at the bus/train station, rather than get a 15 Euro cab, take the 9B bus for like 1 or 2 euro.

Wonderful Staff, Great Location.
They were completely responsive to our needs. We had an issue with our shower and within minutes, the staff was at the room to remedy the situation. The breakfast was one of the best I have seen with a wide variety of selections and non-stop espresso. The view from our room of the port was magical. The roof deck had a similar view. The only negative I can think of is that to reach the main shopping district, one needs to climb some stairs but it is excellent exercise!
