On the top of the old world

Beautiful and relaxing place
This is a nice hotel, a good respite from the hustle and bustle of the Rome city centre. The gardens, patios, and pool are lovely, as are other public spaces. Our room was small and a bit dated, but clean and cool. All staff were very accommodating There are several restaurants within a few minutes walk and the hotel restaurant is good. Breakfast was very nice. Less than a 10 minute walk to lovely park, fountains, and overlook of Rome. Take a short taxi ride down the hill to Trastevere for much shopping and dining. Loved it!

Bad Experience
We had a terrible experience with this hotel. First of all, we had to change rooms twice. The first room was too small and the A/C was not working properly. In the second room the toilet lid was not properly attached and slid over to one side. In addition the shower attachment knob was broken and the shower soaked the floor. The rooms did not have a coffee maker or an appliance to heat water. The only ice maker was located in the bar area. I was not too surprised by this and spoke with the manager to ask if there might be a way for me to make iced tea. She said this would not be a problem and that we could use the electric hot water urn located in the bar and they would provide us ice from the bar. She said we could do this anytime we wished. This was not a problem at first because we didn't get back until late in the evening everyday. However, one day we came back around 6:00 PM and I went to the bar to make tea. There were people sitting at a table in the bar at that time. I sat my tea pot under the urn and turned it up to the proper setting to make tea. While we were waiting, we each had a cookie. There were always cookies on a tray in the bar. Suddenly a lady approached me and said that they had paid for everthing in the room. I replied, "even the water". She said I could have water but they had paid for the room and the cookies. I apologized and told her we had no idea. A few minutes later the manager came in and told us we needed to leave the bar area. I told her I was waiting for the water to heat up. To my amazement, she turned the spigot on and started to fill my tea pot! At the same time she said "it's hot enough." No one should have to endure such embarrassment and humiliation. The rest of the staff were very friendly and courteous.
