Let's face it ... who goes to Vegas to stay in their room? I booked two nights at $50 each for Superbowl weekend, which came to a total that is less than one night on the Strip where we usually stay. Walking distance to Fremont and on the bus line, so if you want to go to the Strip, just get on board. Maybe we're getting older, but the Strip feels more like Disneyland every time we go. We had a great time and The Flame was quite good for the price. Staff was friendly and we felt like regulars by the time we left. We are already planning our next trip but will definitely stay here again.

I got a pavillion room, on the 5th floor above and to the west of the parking garage. The room was fine, away from the street and VERY quiet. Since I wanted to drive to the strip almost every day I couldn't ask for a more conveniently located room---it was 42 steps from my room to the elevator, down one floor, and 55 steps to my car (hey, I counted them each trip!). Good TV, good shower, comfortable bed, ice machine close by---what more does a guy need? The best value for a hotel room I've seen in Las Vegas.

This hotel was located about 2 blocks from Fremont Street Experience, but you have to pass seedy clubs and people begging for change to get there. The hotel did not have an elevator and the rooms were old. This added to charm however, the mattresses were the worst I have ever had in a hotel. I have been home 2 days and my back still hurts. I would only consider staying again if I read they had bought new mattresses for the rooms

El Cortez Always came up when searching for lowest price on Travel websites. So I wanted to check it out. Wanted to try staying downtown Freemont instead of the strip. Valet was nice and quick. First impression when walking threw doors was Wow its much bigger than expected. They have that pumped in air freshener kind of reacted with my ashma. I did not find the casino smokey and I'am a non smoker. It was clean and decorated nice. Hotel clerk was nice and we upgraded our room for more space and so we could have a safe in room. He gave us a room with a view. The elevators we clean a key card is needed. The hallways were quiet and very clean and the decor nice. The room was great reminded me of home very clean. Everything one needs in a hotel room except a mini frig but I heard if you ask they have those also. The bathroom was nice and had a little window which I loved. The view was of the far off strip and mountains. Loved drinking coffee in morning from the love seat and watching people walking below.There is a one cup coffee maker I always bring instant coffee with me and make more cups. No iron in room but does have a blow dryer.. Beds were clean and I checked for critters. Towels were really nice. Casino had lots of machines and table games. 24 Hour restrant was ok we ate there once and bread was stale soup was good. Note No Carry Out. The Sub way shop was nice to have for a quick bite they are Not open 24 hrs. Only draw back to this casino hotel is location we are night owls and from Detroit walking back from Freemont at night is a freak show and not safe. WE are in our 50s and felt thankful each time we make it back to El Cortez with out getting mugged. It would be nice if they had a golf cart shuttle for Hotel guests for the 2 block walk. A group of friends would be safer, but not a lone person.

I hate the hotel with a lot noise and this hotel all nigth hear noise, and the shower don't work correctly, the room was warm

The room, in the older part of the casino, remains relatively clean. Without an elevator, it's not very friendly for senior travelers who may have to carry some heavy lugages. For what we paid can't ask for more.

I wasn't impressed with the Cabana Suites. I heard good reviews so was happy that the El Cortez "upgraded" me from the tower rooms to the Cabana Suites. Little did I know, they "upgraded" me probably because they overbooked the tower rooms. While nicely upgraded I didn't like the Cabana Suites, the rooms were smallish compared to the tower rooms. I had room with a dresser and a bed with headboard but little else. Inside the dresser was a fridge which was a nice touch. There was no view to speak of. There was an exercise room and the lobby area was a nicely furnished and they offerred fruit for guests. The shower and bathroom area was nicely done. I like the El Cortez Tower rooms because they are spacious with a nice view. The tower rooms also have a couch and coffee table area so I can relax and eat or read away from my bed. This wasn't possible at the Cabana Suites, I had to use my bed for that. Felt a little claustrophobic because of the small sized rooms. Wish the tower rooms were renovated like the Cabana suites. I know that people may be surprised but I would rather stay in the tower rooms and have a more spacious room to spread out on.

BUY 1 night get the next El Cortez night FREE!!! I arrived earlier than my 2pm check-in time, and the front desk clerk happily gave me a vintage room. Check-in took less than a minute! My only counter point was the thermostat was set for 85 degree heat, but the room never quite got to 70 degrees (all night too). However the sheet,blanket,sheet bed spread arrangement was quite satisfactory in keeping me warm in bed! (With that thermostats setting of 85 degrees left untouched, or unadjusted byme). This old building probably is in need of an ALL new weather proofing to keep ALL the heat inside of it.
