Great Location
Location, Location, Location! If that is important to enjoy the Wharf / Ghiradelli or ride the trolly to Union Square this is the place for you. Facility is dated but clean and staff is helpful.

Take the trolly from the turnaround on Powell to Union Square...don't challenge the walk ...it's up hill!

Don't stay in room 201
The location was perfect. Loved being able to walk to everything. Room 201 not so great!! The room was flanked by the elevator and stairwell and the ice machine. Did not get much sleep. Complained to the front desk on check out and the guy said not a word. Really not one word. Weird.

Excellent location! Amenities just OK.
I turned on the heater in the evening, but got cold air blowing out instead of warm air. So I went to bed in the cold. Didn't know until I talked to Janet, the nice receptionist the next morning, that the boiler doesn't get turned out until 11.30 pm ... You CAN request for the boiler to turn on earlier, so you'd sleep better than I did.

Pleasantly Surprised
I had stayed here many years ago before I had kids and I remember that the inn in those days was sort of run down and in need of upgrading but basically it was clean and in a great location so I decided to give it another try now that I have young teens. The management was very friendly and helpful and quickly checked us in. The free parking is great and very convenient. The location is brilliant, you can't really beat it. Best of all, the inn has also undergone rennovation in recent years and is well maintained and so the rooms were very nicely appointed and much more comfortable than I expected. The beds were in good shape, the TV worked, the room was warm, the shower worked - I couldnt really ask for anything more. The only bad thing I can say is that the rooms can be a little noisy since the location is near the main Embarcadero drag, the windows are old and single paned and trucks run that stretch all night long but I slept fine nonetheless.
